This is dumb, bad and horrible. Oh their T levels are at 10 or less for 12 months? AND? These are athletes, who prior to the the HRT were at a high physical level, the T drop does affect strength, but not enough to make this a good idea. It's a very BAD idea. The LPGA had a sex change and two year wait to compete because after surgery there is a much more pronounced effect from the Estrogen and on over all body strength.

I, cannot support this move. I understand, I feel for these ladies wanting to compete, but the physical edge they have is far to great, 12 months is not enough. My wife would point out the problems in women's weightlifting for example. I cannot support this move, this way.

Why not take equal right seriously and female self-esteem by letting them compete with the men?
 
I agree with Renae. 12 months seems an insanely short time frame. No way that is enough time to erase the inherent advantages.

it wouldn't matter they would still have inherent advantages even later on.
which is why the whole things is BS.

women who train all their lives to compete in the Olympics can now lose to a guy.
it is sickening frankly and people should protest it.
 
Why can't transsexuals just get their own leagues? Why do they have to put together with people that actually are what they pretending to be?
 
With each successive Olympic Games, I care less and less about them.

All they basically seem to me to be is a competition between countries to a) offer the largest bribes to IOC members; and b) spend the most ludicrous amounts of taxpayer money on holding the games themselves.

The Olympics were kinda cool once...now I find them almost silly.


They could let six-legged, robotic mongoose's compete for all I care.

Being able to compete against who you want is not an equal rights issue.

How is it silly? They're not actually women nor can they really compete against their own sex, so it would make more sense to put them with each other.

I have considered the Olympics a waste of money for years now. Why anyone would be interested in spending so much money for this is something I just don't understand.

This will effectively render the Olympics meaningless.

The NCAA says athletes who have testosterone in their systems from medical treatment will not be allowed to compete against women's teams in gender-specific sports at NCAA championships. They will be allowed, however, to compete against men.

The exception is if a male is transitioning to being a female. The athlete would then have to provide documentation showing they had testosterone suppression treatment for one calendar year. The athlete would then have to continue to document the medical treatment each successive year to remain eligible for a women's team in postseason play.

I assume they spend the big bucks for two reasons:

1) pride;

and (mostly) 2) they do it for the same reason governments fund other sporting events - to distract the voters from their incompetent leaders. And the plus is the Olympics evoke a LOT of patriotism from the ignorant masses. And when people feel patriotic, they seem to feel better about their leaders.
Of course, these same ignorant masses seem oblivious to the fact that they (and their offspring) are paying for this orgasmic splurge of 'patriotism'.

Why? If men cannot compete against women then it is an equal rights issue with segregation.
