funny you should say that because that's what I thought...anyone can swear upon anything which is important to them and truly unless that human being has integrity it is meaningless...and IF that person has integrity, it is still irrelevant because it is not the book that matters but the individual themselves...people swear on the bible and then lie otherwise our politicians and judges would be trustworthy

personally,i think making folks take an oath is rather silly anymore.... it's not taken seriously by most who take the oath, and there are no penalties for breaking said oath (which are broken on a daily basis, especailly by elected officials.)

If you make her pledge on the bible she is less likely to keep the pledge because she doesn't even believe in the bible. Using the Koran is more effective since she actually believes in it.

But even so, any book is fine, as you as you hold sacred your promise to your God to defend and support the U.S. Constitution.

Well, but there was polygamy earlier in the bible. The New Testament takes no position on Polygamy and does not come out and say it is wrong.

There is no problem with 4 wives for rich enough Arab men.

But 72 virgins with full breasts as a plump reward for killing infidels is a problem.

It's ludicrous for someone who does not believe in Christianity to take an oath on a Bible.

To what end?

She might as well have taken the oath on a copy of Playboy magazine or the New York Times.

As long as it is all consensual then what is wrong with that? It is just plain old polygamy just like in the bible. You don't think that breast size was considered by the men who had many wives in the bible? I am sure King David very much took that into account.

At least the Muslim paradise has sex. Christianity says that the most pure people should not have sex and sex only exists for those with temptation. Also sex exists for reproduction. In heaven, everyone is pure and there is no need for reproduction so there is no guarantee of sex at all.

So if we were add doing Pascal's Wager, Islam is the logical choice.

Much to do about nothing unless you have a problem with a specific case or something she may have said. A cookbook is just as good as bible or koran. Kind of silly for nonchristians to take an oath on a christian bible.

Not believing in a god doesn't mean you don't believe in anything. Some people believe in god/religion so much they can justify anything, like murder.

A lot of politicians swear on the bible and then lie and act immorally in office. That makes me never want to swear on a religious text. Nobody in the government seems to take swearing on the bible seriously anymore. It's a meaningless gesture. If anything, I would take oath on the constitution.

yes the oath sworn is only as good as the individual doing the swearing, what they place their hand upon is irrelevant
