House Republicans Fighting Back Against (Perceived) War On Christmas

This would be just another sign of how ludicrously stupid and worthless waste of protoplasm this minority of religious freaks in Congress are were it not for the fact that they more and more resemble islamist fundamentalists in attitude and objective.

Behold the core message:

The resolution would not only "recognize the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas," but would also "strongly disapprove of attempts to ban references to Christmas."

And here is the actual proposed resolution:

RESOLUTION
Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the symbols and traditions of Christmas should be protected for use by those who celebrate Christmas.

Whereas Christmas is a national holiday celebrated on December 25; and

Whereas the Framers intended that the First Amendment of the Constitution, in prohibiting the establishment of religion, would not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialog: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives—

(1) recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;

(2) strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and

(3) expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions by those who celebrate Christmas.

Thomas Jefferson (someone rightwingers love to incorrectly insist was one of our "framers") refused to continue the practice (started by Washington and continued by Adams) of issuing religious holiday proclamations (christian only, of course) because he rightly realized that while those didn't represent a literal violation of the first amendment prohibition on Congress to "make no law respecting the establishment of religion" it certainly violated the spirit of the "wall of separation between church and state" that he fervently believed should be observed and represented the first step toward tearing down that proscription. This would be the "camel's nose" in a steady goose-step march toward establishing the warped version of christianity held by a minority of extremist christians in this country. Unless Congress plans to make this sort of resolution for every religion represented in this country as well as one for "no religion" (a proclamation recognizing rationalism would do) they should steer clear of this abyss. In fact, it would be impossible to do this so any attempt should be thwarted.

And just to remind ourselves just how desperately ridiculous (as all fanatics are at base) these people are:

The move comes after evangelicals had a strong reaction to Starbucks' new holiday cup. The controversy began after Starbucks released just simple red cups for the holidays instead of cups with seasonal greetings or pictures on them. Some saw the move as another example of the "war on Christmas"

But being idiotic doesn't mean they're any less dangerous. There are far too many armed religious nutcases (recent example, Robert Lewis Dear) who actually lap this crap up and they are not funny.

I will ask ANY FOX viewer....how are you not allowed to celebrate xmas in this country?

I have said "Merry Christmas" to about the 200 people this year. Not a shot fired on my Christmas.

How could anybody not like Christmas!!!

I'm an atheist and I love it (admittedly for the mostly pagan symbols your picture shows; but it's also a great little story). Just don't cotton to having it crammed down my throat.

Right! I mean, it's a national holiday, granted. But it's a choice everyone has to make whether or not to celebrate the highly lamented birth of Jesus Christ. It's why we have freedom of religion in this country. I don't need a new law to tell me when to celebrate this occasion or to protect my right to do so.

They claim a war on Christmas, but I think they ruined it themselves. After all, Christ was not born in December, but in the fall, but they embraced a pagan holiday, are using pagan symbols and rituals, and believe that some morbidly obese German guy is going to break into their house, and leave stuff around instead of taking stuff. That's not just a war on Christmas, it's a war on sanity too. LOL.

It just wouldn't be Xmas without the traditional perceived 'war on Christmas.'

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter:

I don't even understand what this resolution is meant to do besides say "We like Christmas".

There is a war on Christmas and I rarely watch FOX news. I was astounded once when my kids did a "Holiday" show at their public school at Christmas time. They sang songs in several different languages covering several different religions but not one Christmas song - not even one!

I am but school children apparently aren't everywhere.

An Aethiest ?? Then you're one of the faithful that believes in that which cannot be substantiated.

The God does not exist. So It's a bit hypocritical and asinine of you to attack someone elses faith and beliefs.

Saying, "merry christmas" has been banned by a huge number of businesses throughout the country because the "New Hitler Alliance" known as democrats want to outlaw freedom of religion. P.O.

Yep. They are for everyone's rights but those that they disagree with and everyone they disagree with is a bigot.

Why bother? We know that House Republicans are spineless, worthless, sell outs who've betrayed the American people. This BS won't help them next election.

They're out.

And good riddance.
