Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

I call BS. It's not that hard to make an anonymous tip and if no action is done, keep making them until something is handled. He just didn't really care or have the balls to stand up. Of course once the cameras are rolling in your face it's easy enough to paint yourself as the victim.
It's not on camera, at least it was not shown.

Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

You seem to be purposely avoiding what "acting" was involved. You seem content that ]looking suspicious requires no action other than merely being present.

Suddenly noticing an increased activity of men and packages being delivered is not any action? You seem content that if your neighbor suddenly had a bunch of different men coming over and packages being delivered, you would look the other way as that's not enough for you but for someone else, it may raise a couple of questions.

EDIT: Just to add the guy was proved right, so whatever activity he did witness that he thought was suspicious, was suspicious. Are you going to argue that he must not have witnessed anything and because they looked a certain way and were just being present that what he saw was not good enough?

Care to show me where this (bolded above) "fact" was included in the OP linked story? Anyone can attempt to add different facts (not in evidence?) to make a point. Show us a person seeing these "suspicious packages being delivered" who did not report it due to fear of being labeled as a racist and then we can discuss the OP's theory, as fact.

It hasn't been confirmed but whatever he did see, or did not, has been proven right. As I said I doubt the guys story because it's not that hard to make an anonymous call but I'm also going to argue that if someone does see something they do think is suspicious they should report it and not be scared because people might think they are profiling people because some like you might not think what they thought they saw really happened and they were just scared of the minorities or being labeled.

Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

How does caller ID work on calls from pay phones? Fill us in.

See a lot of pay phones around? You people will say anything to avoid understanding how PC has affected society.

Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

.... Unfortunately, we never learn anything. First of all, this is ridiculous. You never EVER see any calls to racially profile white people after a white individual carries out a horrendous attack. This bull**** about the evil "PC" crowd is hysterical. Posters in this thread are acting like its perfectly fine to profile minorities and be afraid of Muslims because they're.. What, walking? The last thing we need to do is fuel this fear of middle Eastern individuals.

I agree 100% (with the bolded above), my point is that one cannot report simply being a male of ME descent as being suspicious and it is unlikely that seeing your neighbor getting, *gasp*, packages delivered would (or should be) deemed suspicious enough to get a search warrant.

The number of folks that will say "now that I think about it, that neighbor now in the headlines had been acting a bit oddly" - simply brilliant 20/20 hindsight that would never have been enough to get a warrant. The reason that this "suspicion" was not reported is because 99.99% of that same "package delivery" behavior is normal. Expect to see lots of "suspicious" packages being delivered to your neighbors - rumor has it that Christmas is coming. Have pity on your local PD and your neighbors - please don't make all of those "suspicious" package delivery calls. ;)

 true.

I have to go and don't have more time to argue debate :) but thanks for your replies, I appreciate your point of view. :2wave:

Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

I'm more of the opinion that the neutering is more a self imposed one, "I don't want to get involved" no PC forces need bother.

Just what reveal do you expect? I expect none until the terrorists are gunning down citizens... Muslims visiting each other isn't a 'clue'. So tighten your zoom lens and tell us just what do you think a citizen will see in time to alert the authorities and have the attack nipped in the bud?

In light of the demonstrable history of personal and professional attacks against anyone perceived to have violated the PC rules, your claim seems a bit naïve.

I believe it will be a challenge for citizens to convert observations into actions, given the points you made, so I don't have a definitive answer. As to revealing observations, I think most people are familiar enough with their neighborhoods to recognize activities that are out of place, or unusual. People call the police all the time to report suspicious activity. However, we should all be concern if the lack of such reporting is stated for reasons of a desire not to racially profile. If that is the case, the PC agenda can certainly be viewed as a contributor.

Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

The PC agenda is against racial profiling, so learn to live with the unintended consequences.

So you are openly for racially profiling? You are for calling the police on people who have a darker skin complexion than the average white male, for no reason other than the fact they have a darker skin complexion?

Lets not ignore the fact that the home is that of the shooters sister and mother. Now...why didnt htese good nonviolent Muslims not call authorities/ is it possible THEY didnt know they were building pipe bombs and IEDs?

And what of those 'half a dozen middle eastern men'? There are a lot of people critical of the neighbor for not calling due to fear of being labelled a racist, Do those people that are critical of the neighbor believe the presence of those middle eastern men should have represented a threat? Do they still? And if so...uh oh....

Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

The idea of anonymity is only useful if people believe they are going to stay anonymous. Many doubt they can or wouldn't think about it that way.

Do you live in California? You have to live here to know what this guy is talking about. If he'd called the police, there's a good chance the police would have ignored his tip and looked into him on the basis of hate crime charges.

Guess what, they've always been doing it; they just don't tell you because you'd have a hissy-fit.

Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

Every heard of Caller ID?

:doh Again. You can be anonymous. This isnt that hard to understand.
"Can I report a crime, or information on someone suspected of a crime, without identifying myself? Yes. The Crime Stoppers phone number is 335-4747. If you wish to give the information to a detective you may ask for one and remain anonymous. We believe that the information provided by anonymous citizens is very important in solving crime and stopping offenders." Investigative Services | City of Redlands

No-one is arguing that racial profiling doesnt exist or that its used by police departments. Nor does this validate the OP claims (which you seem to be offending) that the man did not call the police to investigate these people in his neighborhood because he was afraid that he was gonna be condemned by "the media" and others for racial profiling...
But again, you refuse to answer the questions asked of you.
Answer the questions: So you are openly for racially profiling? You are for calling the police on people who have a darker skin complexion than the average white male, for no reason other than the fact they have a darker skin complexion?

You're question is irrelevant and a deflection. I said the man didn't want to be beaten down over racial profiling, so didn't report it. Maybe you need to answer that question, since you believe he did the wrong thing. He acted like this because of your side, not mine. I don't have to answer for this, you do. Now answer.

First the demonstrable history isn't for perceived violations but quite flagrant ones... The "I saw muslims dancing in the streets after 9-11" crowd. The two businessmen not allowed to board a plane because they were speaking in a language SOME of the other passengers were 'afraid' of... :doh

Now I asked just what would be a reportable action the average citizen can see and should report?

You danced around anything specific. What would be 'out of the ordinary'?

The point I'm making is there really isn't anything that would trigger a sensible citizen into suspicion out in the street. As far as citizens turning in suspects- the Mosques and families have done a far better job than any concerned citizen... :peace

Re: San Bern Shoot: Neighbor was afraid to report might be labelled as racist.

Its completely relevant because you seem to be defending racial profiling.

I said the man didn't want to be beaten down over racial profiling, so didn't report it.
Where did you get that indication, the article nowhere states that.
As I stated earlier: "Where did you get the idea that the neighbor did not report anything because he was "afraid of being labelled a racist by the community and the media"? The article does not state that, the article states that the man didnt want to report anything because HE didnt want to racially profile the man. It states, "decided not to report anything since he did not wish to racially profile those people.". How did you get from that statement that they were afraid of being labeled racists by the community and the media? Also if he wanted to report them for being middle eastern he could do so anonymously.."

But when you quoted this post you went off about something "the PC agenda"... And some bull**** about how "leftists are destroying the country".

Maybe you need to answer that question,
What question?

since you believe he did the wrong thing.
"The wrong thing"? Whats that? What did he do that was "wrong"?

He acted like this because of your side, not mine. I don't have to answer for this, you do. Now answer.
:lamo What? So "your side" openly promotes racial profiling and for individuals to call the police to report someone based on dark complexion?
