Chalk this one up next to the previous SECDEFs and GO/FO's saying that we don't have a strategy.

The United States has "not contained" the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the nation's top military officer said Tuesday, contradicting President Obama's remarks last month about the terror group.

"We have not contained" ISIS, Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told lawmakers at a House Armed Services Committee hearing.

The comment runs counter to what the president said days before ISIS launched a string of attacks across Paris.

"I don't think they're gaining strength. What is true is that from the start, our goal has been first to contain, and we have contained them," Obama told ABC News.

The military must have a pretty low regard of Obama if they're contradicting him before they resign. Usually commanders are blind yes-men to the president and only criticize the CIC once they are retired.
 
Who was the dip**** that said ISIS was contained? Oh wait, happens to be Obama... sort of (he was referring to ISIS expansion in Syria and Iraq.) And here we have the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff saying that part is not even true.

What he hell is going on over there?

No surprise at all. Look at the screw up in Kobani. ISIL all around and they had a hard time finding targets in a target rich environment. long supply lines headed directly to Kobani. Yet air strikes were at a minimum.
Then we have Turkey who was prepared for a mass slaughter in Kobani. Good ally.
Reason NATO countries, including Canada should have spotters on the ground.
Oil shipments, google it and see what little was done.

ISIL is selling oil to Assad, the Kurd's and Turkey. Only recently has the US gone after the money.
Supplies coming over the border with Turkey.
They were pissed as they wanted Assad gone and a no fly zone.

Then Saudi, not flying many sorties now, most of their AC have been moved to Yemen.
Qatar - acting in an opposing position to what groups Saudi was supporting. That went south real fast.
Complete disorganization.

As to NATO troops on the ground. Trainers, spotters and I understand the US is deploying special forces to Syria.
But in the end, for Iraq, let the Iraqi's and Iranians die, let them spill their blood. As in the end, Iraq will line up with Iran and Russia.

Syria, let the Iranians, Hezbollah and the remnants of the Syrian army kill each other off with ISIL.
Saudi is arming rebels thru Turkey. We may see some man pads deployed against the Hinds the Russians are using.
The war in Syria is at a stalemate, and Russia will NOT significantly increase ground forces there. What they have on the ground are for base protection-support.
AC -Hind and artillery, yes. But combat troops on the front line, highly doubtful.

Russia want to be a player in this. They are the only ones that can get Assad out and provide safe haven for him and the rest of the genocidal bastards.
But Russia has strategic interests and wants them guaranteed by any new Govt.
This war will be ongoing for a few years yet.

The Alawite sect are not providing sons to the Army, and are losing what little faith they had in Assad. That has been ongoing for at least a year or 2.
As the ruling minority, who have killed tens of thousands over the decades, include Christians as well. They are concerned about blow back if and when Assad leaves.

He's testifying before Congress and presumably under oath. He has to call it as he sees it in that case or risk perjuring himself.

Not the ones that hold any respect by others.

They will argue with what they disagree with but then carry out orders when the final decision is made.

Obama has a mini revolt going on right now. Several of his staff are contradickting him lately.

Well he's wrong and we don't. And how can the Islamic State be contained when you have so many nations financing them, purchasing their oil, and allowing their supply lines safe passage. With the "moderate" making alliances with them not to attack each other. Obviously there are too many nations with conflicting interests, all of which are using the Islamic State to their own ends.

It's what politicians do, it doesn't require a d behind their names. I can remember how sick I got of hearing that al Qaeda was on the run, no longer a threat, in their last throws. :roll:

And iSIL playing them all off. Note this, many high ranking ISIL members have made their way to Libya.

I checked and I didn't see a "d" signifying anything. I do believe Obama is a liar. Having a "D" behind his name doesn't buy him any cover. It is what it is.

Oh sure, I didn't dispute that, I was just pointing out that politicians are liars and recalling the times Bush lied to me about al Qaeda being defeated, al Qaeda's bigger than than they ever were.
