It is a legitimate question as we are discussing learning lessons from the mistakes of people from his own party vs. the political opportunism of taking a shot on Obama (and presumably Hillary as well, unsure on that part.)

Both. It's correct, as is obvious by now, it's just that most don't want to admit that they've been supporting a failed US policy all these years. And Cruz is only just now saying it (way too late, since those four stabilizing figures are gone) for political expedience.

Islamic extremists haven't been contained since Hussein, Mubarak, Gaddafi and Assad lost control.

That's probably tongue in cheek. Obama is not a dumb person. It's worse than that.
