After prematurely announcing the endorsements of 100 black pastors -- prompting several to protest they were not, in fact, supporters – Donald Trump’s campaign abruptly cancelled a press conference with the group scheduled for Monday afternoon at Trump Tower.
Trump’s press secretary Hope Hicks informed reporters of the change of plans in an email Sunday afternoon.

“On Monday, Mr. Trump will host an informational meet and greet with many members of the Coalition of African American Ministers. This is not a press event, but a private meeting, after which, a number of attendees are expected to endorse Mr. Trump’s campaign for President. This is closed to press and therefore no media credentials will be provided,” she wrote.

The botched endorsement rollout represents an embarrassing setback for a campaign struggling to combat the perception that its candidate is racially divisive.

Well isnt that something else. Turns out many on the list of black clergy who supposedly were gonna endorse Trump, were in fact not supporters of him, thus leading him to cancel the public event/press conference. Its now going to be a small "private gathering".

He probably fired them.

In Donald's mind...he has hundreds of Black pastors supporting him.

does it really matter one way or the other? How does 100 black pastors out of the 30,000 Historically Black churches matter?

They are probably out dancing with the Dancing Muslims from New Jersey so they couldn't endorse the Donald. Seriously it looks to me like this stuff would just embarrass the Republicans.

Republicans have never allowed themselves to be embarrassed. No matter what, they just aren't wired that way.

The brilliance of it all is that he gets more free publicity every time he opens his mind.

The republicants were never expecting a significant share of the black vote and will likely not be surprised in 2016.

Correct

Republicans try to show that they have appeal for black people, not to actually gain black votes, but to assuage the concerns of potential white voters who are not bigots

Yep, a relatively fixed percetage of voters will always vote only for a demorat or only for a rebublicant the rest are subject to being wooed (or turned away) by campaigning (salesmanship) skills.

I'm becoming convinced that it isn't his "mind" that he keeps opening. Nor is it his mouth.

Do you really think that only applies to republican politicians? It's a long time truism for ALL politicians.

The Trump campaign expected post meeting endorsements and it was unlikely they were going be pleased with the results. So when you expect to lose the game - why even show up?

Trump insists 'most' black pastors endorsing him | TheHill

Darrell Scott, a pastor at the New Spirit Revival Center in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, stood by Trump’s side on Monday, saying that the meeting was “productive” and “constructive” and that the group of religious leaders are a “united front.”
“We voiced concerns sensitive to the African-American community,” Scott said. “We’re all satisfied with the answers.”
Scott said there were a number of pastors who endorsed Trump, but didn’t have an official number. He said the religious leaders who remain undecided are “praying about it.”
“Nobody at this meeting came out with negative reaction in any kind of way,” Scott said, adding that “Everybody in the room likes Donald Trump.”

Looks like it went off pretty good for Trump. What I find interesting is that some of them are endorsing Trump over Clinton or Sanders. Ooops.
