The war business is booming

With 300 million guns in the US alone, a country which for the most part has been at peace on the homefront, I think your theory needs to be tweaked a little. Sure, gun manufacturers make a lot of money because of war but it's infinitely easier to sell a gun to some pot bellied idiot sitting at home thinking of how his out of shape ass is going to fight le jihad.

All you have to do is tap into his ego. Use words like power, balance, longer. Hell, just go ahead and associate the gun itself with the proverbial man card. People fall for that kind of stuff without even knowing it. They're the type of people gun companies are after in the long run.

or simply start a rumor that the president is going to come and take their guns away.

I believe there are those who would resent the USA or any other country taking the part of being the world's policeman. As for what the USA is neglecting with regards its roads, bridges, etc, I believe you will find the same arguments being made in other countries, including here in UK. As for argument related to defence spending, it is an argument that I support. A country needs to be able to defend itself should the need arise, but I believe you may be confusing the sale of arms and supporting defence spending for any country as same thing. They are not, and I fail to see the logic in selling arms to any country or faction that may be our enemies at some future date.

Selling arms makes money, more profit, more taxes, more bonuses, more prosperity.

It is regulated of course since it has military implications.

The 5 Buddhist forbidden practices are arms, slaves, poisons, meat, and one more that I can never remember.

Of those, slaves trafficking is the only one I would not want to be involved in. The rest, like Remington, Dow Chemical, Harris Farms, etc are just business.
