'Should Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ever set foot inside Spain, he - and six other current and former Israeli government officials - would be subject to arrest, thanks to a Spanish judge who effectively issued an arrest warrant for the group late last week.

As to be expected, the Israeli Foreign Ministry was less than thrilled, as spokesperson Emmanuel Nachshon responded, according to The Jerusalem Post, “We consider [the judge’s order] to be a provocation. We are working with the Spanish authorities to get it canceled. We hope it will be over soon.”

At the heart of the matter for Spanish National Court Judge José de la Mata — and humanitarians worldwide — lies the 2010 attack by Israeli commandos on the civilian humanitarian ship, the Mavi Marmara, one of six vessels, carrying around 500 passengers total, in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.'

Universal jurisdiction is complete nonsense. I'm no fan of Netanyahoo, he is both a coward and a Jew, but I certainly won't get behind any idiotic antiparticularist legal policy.

I love it, now Bush and Bibi have countries they have to avoid. Those that support that Israeli freak will just criticize and boycot Spain though.

A coward and a "Jew"!!! That's interesting. Anyway, you won't have to get behind it, the judge took this action uni-laterally.

He wouldn't be the first foreign politician to be subject the this kind of attention. It has been tried with Pinochet, Mugabe and Al Bashir, if I remember correctly. They never come to anything and are mostly symbolic statements by a judicial system that would claim jurisdiction over anyone who steps on its soil. I'm never quite sure whether I think this is a good or bad thing.

You really should get your facts straight. Bush isn't wanted anywhere.

That he's a Jew should not need substantiation. He's a coward because he forces women to do his fighting for him.

And lol at the judge's action, it'll have exactly zero effect.

I know Bush isn't wanted anywhere, that's the point. And of course the judges action won't have any effect. It's still nice to see. I got the coward part, what's being a Jew have to do with anything?

Then why'd you claim Bush had countries he had to avoid?

Moderator's Warning:
Please be mindful of the fact that I/P discussions must be housed in the ME Forum. If this was just a discussion about the possibility of Bibi being arrested if he attempted to enter Spain it wouldn't violate ML but because the decision surrounds the Mavi Marmara incident which is specifically mentioned and thus invites discussions on I/P specifics, it crosses over into that line. Thanks for understanding.
