Ex-CIA Director: White House ignored months of warnings about 9/11

They didn't know how they would attack, so what do we do?

Put the nation in lock down?

Jesus Christ.

Why does it come up time and again, to blame Bush?

Why type of mindset does it take, to carry hatred for so many years?

Glen...

What would you have done if you were president?

You tell me, as it seems little was done.

Without the benefit of hindsight ,
I don't see anything that could have been done to stop the 9/11 attacks.

Are we talking about the same CIA that was wrong about other things?

The Blue Sky paper plan was for us to invade Afghanistan.

I can just imagine what type of a tyrant that would have made Bush look like in the UN, and if it didn't stop the 911 attack, they could have then claimed the higher ground.

Just how foolish will this Showtime special be?

Yes, having hindsight changes the perspective. But it is wrong to use it to blame the past events on.

The Clinton administration had bankrupted the intelligence community and refused to let the CIA prioritize anti-terrorism over other major priorities in the late 1990s, leaving the agency stretched too thin in the days ahead of the 2001 terrorist attacks, former Director George J. Tenet said in a 2005 document declassified Friday.

Mr. Tenet, who was head of the agency at the time of the Sept. 11 attacks and has taken severe criticism for not anticipating and heading them off, said in the document that he took the threat of Osama bin Laden very seriously, and put major effort into trying to penetrate al Qaeda, beginning as far back as 1998.

Clinton administration bankrupted CIA ahead of 9/11, ex-director says - Washington Times

So Tenet blames Clinton and Tenet blames Bush and Tenet blames everyone but Tenet.

Yawn.

This has been going on with Tenet since at least 2007 and has been more or less discredited all along the way.

At what does his irrelevance become relevant?

Without the benefit of hindsight ,
I don't see anything that could have been done to stop the 9/11 attacks.

Depends upon what they did in the years prior to 911

exactly.

intel is good... but actionable intel is far, far superior.

if the CIA would have got it's wish to go on a "war time footing" , the attacks would probably have still been successful

why?.. because they didn't have actionable intel. and a "war time footing" doesn't shut down civilian domestic air traffic

So...

This Showtime special is going to show everything the Bush administration did wrong (in their dreams).

Does that include Tenet convincing Bush that Iraq still had WMD?

Will it include Tenet's orders to hit a Chinese embassy?

Is anything this man says, to be trusted?

The average person cannot comprehend the millions of pieces of information gathered by our intelligent operatives and our allies. The problem is picking our the right piece of information from the millions of pieces of information that were incorrect and never happened. Our enmities are constantly releasing millions of pieces of information just so the right information becomes impossible to accurately pick out until after it happens. The millions of pieces of information gathered 24/7 is excellent to research after the fact to find and prosecute those responsible. We flood our enemies with millions of false information as well. When you multiply all this false information by the number of countries, agencies, and criminals out there plus all the actual intelligence of what is being planned which may never actually come to pass for anyone to say we new for sure this is what was going to happen is lying.

How many people have predicted the end of human existence? So far all have been wrong. If and when it actually happens someone somewhere will probably have said that it would happen on that day. Of course it would be easy to go back and look at the records and say oh look so and so picked that day and nobody listened.

They had no compelling evidence. They had nothing but the common knowledge that Al Qaeda was planning an attack inside the US YAWNNN.

Just like ISIs is planning to attack in the US.
I believe I have 'evidence' that Al Qaeda and ISIS are planning attacks right now. At this very moment. Based on that...why cant we stop them????

So why are we still on the blame bush bandwagon?

Better question, why hasn't O-bomb-ma stopped them?

He knows they are a threat!

However, he gives them safe refuge by destabilizing governments like Libya and Syria that have kept such groups down.

Egypt...Libya...Syria...those are Arab Spring success stories don't ya know. Hillary will be touting that as part of her vast 'experience'

What is sad is that people will believe the BS.

So why are we still on the blame bush bandwagon?

Why is conservative America on the "Bush is totally blameless for the state of the Middle East" bandwagon? He was not president in a vacuum, and the effects of his screwups lasted past inauguration day 2009.

Link please.

Who has ever said he is "totally blameless."

To take individual instances, and say it wasn't hes fault, does not mean everything.

Binary logic is seen as foolish by many of us. Except in computer science.

No mention of the Israeli warnings:

'The British Sunday Telegraph reported on September 16, 2001, that two senior agents with the Mossad were dispatched to Washington in August 2001 "to alert the CIA and FBI to the existence of a cell of as many as 200 terrorists said to be preparing a big operation". The Telegraph quoted a "senior Israeli security official" as saying the Mossad experts had "no specific information about what was being planned". Still, the official told the Telegraph, the Mossad contacts had "linked the plot to Osama bin Laden". Likewise, Die Zeit correspondent Oliver Schröm reported that on August 23, 2001, the Mossad "handed its American counterpart a list of names of terrorists who were staying in the U.S. and were presumably planning to launch an attack in the foreseeable future". Fox News' Carl Cameron, in May 2002, also reported warnings by Israel: "Based on its own intelligence, the Israeli government provided 'general' information to the United States in the second week of August that an al-Qaeda attack was imminent" ...

'Mossad expert Gordon Thomas, author of Gideon's Spies, says German intelligence sources told him that as late as August 2001 Israeli spies in the United States had made surveillance contacts with "known supporters of bin Laden in the U.S.A. It was those surveillance contacts that later raised the question: how much prior knowledge did Mossad have and at what stage?" According to Die Zeit, the Mossad did provide the U.S. government with the names of suspected terrorists Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi, who would eventually hijack the Pentagon plane.'

And speaking of Fox News' Carl Cameron:

'"Since September 11, more than 60 Israelis have been arrested or detained, either under the new patriot anti-terrorism law, or for immigration violations. A handful of active Israeli military were among those detained, according to investigators, who say some of the detainees also failed polygraph questions when asked about alleged surveillance activities against and in the United States.

"There is no indication that the Israelis were involved in the 9-11 attacks, but investigators suspect that they Israelis may have gathered intelligence about the attacks in advance, and not shared it. A highly placed investigator said there are “tie-ins.” But when asked for details, he flatly refused to describe them, saying, ‘evidence linking these Israelis to 9-11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It’s classified information.’"

'Fox News has never retracted a word of this story, although they did – after pressure from the Israel lobby – delete it from their web site.'

WOW , you sure showed us all up with that one.

You're right. As soon as he got that info he should have IMMEDIATELY rounded up every person in this country from the Middle East and waterboarded them until they confessed to the plot !!

He could have some many things. But instead he went on vacation.

You Righties are really bad at owning up. Aren't you?

Are we talking about the same CIA that was wrong about other things?

Yep! The same CIA that has been in the dope business since its early days. The same CIA memorialized in Charlie Wilson's War, and the same one that overthrew Mossadegh and other legitimate rulers.

Yep, the Cocaine Importing Agency.

If you care to be seen with integrity, you should not listen to the likes of Michael Moore-on.

When you believe and repeat such propaganda, you may appear as a moore-on.

...and when one believes and repeats, many years later, government propaganda, I wonder what that makes one?

....congressman, asked him when he first found out about the report from the FBI's Minnesota field office that Zacarias Moussaoui, an Islamic jihadist, had been taking lessons on how to fly a 747. Tenet replied that he was briefed about the case on Aug. 23 or 24, 2001.

Roemer then asked Tenet if he mentioned Moussaoui to President Bush at one of their frequent morning briefings. Tenet replied, "I was not in briefings at this time." Bush, he noted, "was on vacation."
While Bush vacationed, 9/11 warnings went unheard.

During the entire month, Bush was at his ranch in Texas.

That is a flat out lie.

I just don't get how you believe those who are proven to lie.

So, the Clinton administration had all this intel it did nothing about, so why should the incoming president?

You do realize that ALL of the events I posted in the OP happened AFTER Dubya took office in January 2001, right? And on a side note, you do remember that a major topic during Dubya's very first cabinet meeting in January 2001 was the invasion of Iraq, right?
