“In Colorado’s second-largest school district, residents overwhelmingly voted to recall three conservative school board members who floated a controversial proposal that the Advanced Placement U.S. history curriculum be changed to “promote patriotism.” Voters ended up creating an entirely new school board in Jefferson County……..
The win was one of the few bright spots for the Democrats in yesterday’s election results….In spite of over $1 million dollars from the Koch brothers behind the “Patriotic History movement”
The local folks were able to prevail and pull out an impressive win stopping history revisionists from soiling American History with revisionist half-truths and myths…

Those board members are a black eye for Conservatives. I hope the party deep sixes them.

The problem is, the GOP cannot prevent or bar anyone from running for office as a GOP candidate - just look at the current list for President - and this was some local school board. But, if they could, I would be right there with you calling for them to be Davey Jones'ed (and yes, that's now a word).

I don't see any problem with being patriotic, proud of the nation and it's history (warts and all), but I do have a problem with history revisionism.

So safe to say that history revisionism the other way, focusing on and only highlighting the warts, isn't really an honest portrayal of history either.

You shouldn't. Historical revisionism is the lifeblood of the craft.

Bad historical interpretation and research is a different matter.

Revisionism of history is the life blood of the craft of the historians?

How is that? That various interpretations of history are expounded upon in scholarly discussions and academic papers? Hmm. Guess so.

But then how does that translate into grade school and high school history?

As history piled high with revisionism after revisionism, how are you ever going to know what really happened? For teaching texts.

How sad.

Any teaching of history other than bare facts and dates will involve a narrative. The question is whether that narrative will be a good one or a bad one, these voters have chosen the latter.

IOW, there is no neutral.

I think schools are plenty patriotic, with flags and the pledge of allegiance. So they should let history be history and not try to revise it, the US has done plenty of things to be proud of in the history of the world so there again is no need for extra patriotism in there.
