GOP frontrunner Ben Carson, in a 1998 commencement address, floated his own personal theory that the pyramids in Egypt were built by Joseph -- the biblical patriarch known for his coat of many colors -- to store grain, Buzzfeed reported.

“My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain,” Carson said. “Now all the archeologists think that they were made for the pharaohs’ graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. And I don’t think it’d just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain.”

Those would be less efficient use of resources than known existing Egyptian grain storage bins.

We should all care. The evidence on why the pyramids were built and by whom is over whelming, yet this would be king chooses to believe a fantasy. I shudder to think what else he makes up to believe- and will he make-up his own version of what is going on in the world to suit when a clear mind should be leading us.

It just boggles the mind someone would think a massive structure would store grain. It ain't a big hollow building- NO grainery has ever been built so massively with so little storage.

There are times I wonder if his slow, almost lazy manner is from a drug induced haze to stop more strange statements... :peace

truth... I don't think people realize how many stupid things all of us say... I know a lot of people in my life, and I've heard a lot of people saying really stupid things just trying to bounce ideas around xD...it happens. I'm guilty of it, i've said something and later realized it sounds stupid... or thought something when I was younger and realized I was wrong.

When I was first starting my physics major classes .... I heard some of the stupidest questions I have ever heard from random students... and hey, they aren't stupid, they are in a pretty good university and plan on being in a pretty demanding major.

The idea that the Joseph of the Old Testament was Imhotep is a mixture of the usual "Biblical history" pseudo-historical distortion, with a bit of crossover appeal to the lunatic fringe "Alternative" Egyptology nuts. It's a kind of anti-intellectual, anti-historical supermarket, with something for everyone.

Well frankly you don't have to look hard to find a litany of stupid and crazy things Ben Carson has said and continues to say on a regular basis.
 
as a student of ancient Egypt (one of my great interests of all time, only super seeded by my interest into Europe from the end of WW1 to the end of the second world war), Carson is just making silly and uninformed statements about the pyramids. But even how stupid his comments are, they are slightly less stupid than the idea that aliens created them (which is the comment he was disagreeing with).

Me, I'd say that the degree of stupidity required to think the pyramids were hollow storage bins supersedes the alien builders stupidity.
