Trump: My dad gave me a 'small loan' of a million dollars

Whatever, you're going to hate him no matter what. That's about where that is. The man created a real estate empire, and doesn't need to apologize for ****.
Much of the electorate is distrustful of success, which is why they voted for Obama. Hillary has been very successful but claims she "cares about people like you". Will the electorate be goofy enough to buy this? Hillary well knows you can fool some of the people all of the time, and it just might work. As Mencken should have actually said, "“No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American electorate..”

"I feel yo pain."

Trump might never have said that, but watching the feckless GOP agency in Capitol Hill, and listening to the GOP contenders one-upping each other to blurt out the craziest nincompoopery they can come up with, I believe the message holds! Take this "small one million" of his: 90% of the population will never earn that much money in their entire life, and here is Trump wanting us to believe this amount is a mere trifle, like he started with just this pocketmoney but essentially had to fend for himself all alone, while in fact his father has been shadowing him every step of the way thanks to his connections!
As a candidate, this Trump is a consummate phony, but contrary to the other contenders, he does not even pretend to conceal it, he just blares it all out! Yet the sad thing is that even then, herds of zombies are still willing to fall for his act!

I disagree and i find it sad to compare Trump with the Kardashians or even to put the two names in the same sentence! I mean back in the days, you at least had to have some kind of substance if you were looking for some kind of celebrity! But look at how the society has evolved! Nowadays you don't even need substance anymore! It's nothing but show!

All irrelevant.

What's your point? Are you denying what he's created. Get off the man, you have nothing on him except maybe jealousy.

I think it is literally impossible for you to miss the point more.

You missed his point by a light year.

No. Trump is economically farther from where his father was, even figuring in inflation, than any of us are from where his father was. Yes, he was raised with the tools and given a loan (which was small for his father's wealth and small in the industry). But so were many others who haven't achieved a fraction of Trump's success.

He did miss it. The point was that even when relating a story about his family life, he seems completely detached from the general American public past, present or in the future. Unless of course you find a story about the time a father lent a son a few million dollars to be relatable by the overwhelming majority of Americans or even a simply majority. It isn't. That's why Trump looks so bad when talking about it. Think of it. It's as awkward as that time 2 Republicans made a $10K bet on live TV while they discussed how they were going to help the working man.

The man has done remarkably well on his own. https://www.wharton.upenn.edu/125anniversaryissue/trump.html

Its truly comical watching people that are very excited to rush to the polls and vote for a shrill harpy who's claim to fame is she is Bill Clintons wife **** themselves over a man getting his start in business with a loan, with interest, from his father.

Absolute comedy gold. The end result for the country is going to suck, but watching the constant game of partisan twister...thats going to be a ****ing riot.

The jealousy is pouring out of you. Didn't you call yourself a "young money millionaire" or something like that? Was that just a lot of bunk?

It's all relative, but the collectivist mind can only consider things in terms of everyone being miserable and poor, and needing the govt to equalize it.

Well, I guess I was wrong. It IS possible for you to miss the point more.

I'm not a millionaire, yet you and your ilk are the one's offended by Trump's story. I almost pity you, your jealousy of others. But you're on the side of class warfare, both you and Hatuey, that's why this is so important to you. You will have zero effect on Trump, and no one really cares that you've taken offense. Because Trump is winning in the polls anyway.

"Offended." "Jealousy." "Class warfare." LOL. Seriously, are you TRYING to miss the point in the most embarrassing way possible?

You don't think Trump sounds an eensy bit out of touch here?

Donald Trump 2016: My dad gave me a 'small loan' of a million dollars - POLITICO

As Donald Trump tells it, he has been told no his entire life. For example, he said Monday, his father gave him a "small loan of a million dollars" that he had to repay with interest at the start of his career.

Someone went and did the math. If he had just taken his inheritance and parked it in an S&P 500 fund, he'd have about what he has today. Pretty solid for such an awesome businessman.

And so does Trump to executes multimillion real estate deals the produce real jobs for people. So are you done now? The man took a $1M loan and turned it into a multibillion dollar empire, something few have done.

Not quite. There was far more involved $1 million dollars. If you really want to discuss Trump's business track record, I think you'll be very disappointed in his success rate.

When did he get that inheritance and how much was it?

Would have been $40 million at the time of the math (1970s). I'll look it back up.

Here it is

...Trump became president of his father’s real-estate organization in 1974. His share of his father’s empire as one of five siblings was $40 million. As the National Journal has pointed out, If someone were to invest $40 million in a S&P 500 index in 1974, reinvest all dividends, and have to pay capital gains he’d wind up with about $3.4 billion in 2015. Trump claims to be worth over $10 billion but has admitted in a 2007 deposition he frequently exaggerates his wealth. Bloomberg currently puts it at $2.9 billion, while Forbes puts it at $4 billion. So Trump’s actual wealth probably is about as much as he would have accumulated if he had taken his dad’s money and put it into an index fund....

Here it is

That assumes reinvesting all proceeds which means either living on nothing or working another job and living only on that other income. Yet we know that Trump did not do so and has maintained a very expensive lifestyle.

Yes and he was very successful using it as a seed to grow into business empire.

With the numbers that Trump deals with, $1 million is small. It's all relative. What's the big deal?
And btw...he paid that loan back with interest and turned that $1 million into an enormous megafortune....of course he doesn't have "community organizer" on his resume, but we can't hold that against him.

You have all the time in the world to make one. Have at it.

Jealousy? Lol, I'm not running a presidential campaign, or pretending my life stories are relatable to most people. Try again? Wait, maybe if you try to get personal enough, I'll forget how far over your head the point went. Hell, make up more silly imaginary interpretations of what just happened. Frank pointed out that the point went over your head. It clearly did and you're still showing it in spades.

It really paints a sad image of his own state of mind when he thinks people are offended by politicians telling stories about that time somebody lent them a few million dollars. I bet you that American is a type of voter who didn't realize why the $10K bet on live television by 2 Republicans was roundly laughed at at by pretty much everyone. It was a weird admission of what everyone else knew to be true. Trump has just provided another.

That American thinks people are jealous the amount of money Trump made -- which ironically is the same he would have made if he had just sat around and let a machine manage it -- is absolutely hilarious. Good grief, talk about a deficiency of arguments on American's part.
