Trump: I should have Secret Service protection

According to Dan Bongino he doesnt have to request it. The SS can protect whomever they want, unless that person outright refuses of course.

But what would he know? He was just a SS agent for years and years including protecting Hilary Clinton at the house she stored her illegal server.

You're trusting the word of someone who comes from an agency that you believe refuses to protect people based on their politics? And do you have a source for this claim?

LOL, so the problem is the government isn't proactively spending money protecting Trump, who's too lazy or incompetent to have his staff request the help.... Sure, that sounds reasonable.

Trump: "I'm a victim! The SS who I haven't asked to protect me hasn't volunteered to protect me!! It's a conspiracy!! LIBERALS!! :lamo

BTW, if Bongino said it and we only have your word, he was either wrong or incomplete. I've read many places that the SS cannot initiate the protection, that it must be requested, that when it is requested by a candidate, Homeland Security with the committee decide whether the candidate is 'major'. If they do, they direct SS to initiate protection. That's the process, and it is a completely logical one.

He is currently the front running Rep candidate...imo, he should have SS protection without having to ask.

Nothing huge...two guards, 24/7 is enough.

Why should he be treated differently than any other candidate?

Without having to ask? Is Trump a little child and needs daddy Fed to anticipate his needs?

The SS operates completely at their own discretion. They can choose to protect someone if necessary and appropriate. No formal request is needed...its just that, a formality.

But I guess you would know more than an actual SS agent...lol...****ing libs.

Where in the **** did I make the claim that a request was refused??????????? Where did I made the claim that a request was even MADE??? And where did I ever make the claim that a refusal was based on politics?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

You owe me an apology for that RIDICULOUS assertion.

You believe the SS should be obliged to protect Trump, right?

False

I've never seen a quote by a SS agent that claimed what you said he claimed....****ing right wing nutjobs.

BTW, this is how the process is described on the SS website: FAQs

The Secret Service DOES NOT determine who qualifies for protection, nor is the Secret Service empowered to independently initiate candidate protection.

Under 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7), "[m]ajor Presidential and Vice Presidental candidates," as identified by the Secretary of Homeland Security, are eligible for Secret Service protection.

Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) authorizes the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for major presidential and vice presidential candidates:

Protection is authorized by the DHS Secretary after consultation with the Congressional Advisory Committee
The Congressional Advisory Committee includes: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and one additional member selected by the others

The key part is in bigger type so you can read it well. Other key parts in bold.

BTW, here's the full text of 3056(a)(7)

(7) Major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates and, within 120 days of the general Presidential election, the spouses of such candidates. As used in this paragraph, the term “major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates” means those individuals identified as such by the Secretary of Homeland Security after consultation with an advisory committee consisting of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the minority leader of the House of Representatives, the majority and minority leaders of the Senate, and one additional member selected by the other members of the committee. The Committee shall not be subject to the Federal Advisory Committee Act (5 U.S.C. App. 2).

With his radio drop in the polls it's doubtful anyone will protect him

Correct. He has been the frontrunner for months and he has had several death threats and bounties put on his head.

Reality disagrees with you.

Like I said...formalities. I know the process because I heard it from the horses mouth.

But since YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU havent heard it means its not true. :doh

He thinks he heard it on the radio, so you're wrong, obviously....

I dont "think" I heard it, I know I heard it, and I relistened to it just for fun.

Then link to it, or quote him, but just because some retired guy in SS said it doesn't make it true. The LAW disagrees with his opinion, the Secret Service disagrees with your source, both the law and the Secret Service make it crystal clear the determination IS made by DHS, after consulting with the committee outlined in the law.

It's a frequent problem with right wing nutjobs - reality is no barrier to their baseless opinions.

Exactly. So even though the SS should be obliged to protect him, they have refused to, yes?

Last I heard, both Trump and Carson had requested coverage which is step one. Now it's gone to Homeland Security and the committee, exactly as the law requires.

Trump, Carson request Secret Service protection - CNNPolitics.com

Washington (CNN)The campaigns for Donald Trump and Ben Carson have requested Secret Service protection, a Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman told CNN Monday.

The requests from Carson and Trump -- who are currently dominating the Republican field -- will be reviewed by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson in consultation with a congressional panel comprised of Republicans and Democrats from the House and Senate, DHS spokeswoman Marsha Catron said.

But WSU says this isn't how it works, even though it's what the law requires, so I guess Homeland Security is just making this all up.....
