What a surprise huh? Seems the Norwegians want to kiss some Muslim ass. Par for the course with Europeans. Well at least the good news is. John Kerry wont be getting what he desired with his Iranian Sell out Deal. What say ye?

OSLO, Norway (AP) — A coalition of Tunisian workers, business owners, rights activists and lawyers won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for intervening at a crucial time to push the North African country that sparked the Arab Spring revolutions toward democracy and away from civil war.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee cited the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet "for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy" following Tunisia's 2011 revolution that overthrew its long-time dictator. "It established an alternative, peaceful political process at a time when the country was on the brink of civil war," the committee said in its citation.

Kullmann Five said the 8 million Swedish kronor ($960,000) prize was for the quartet as a whole, not for the four individual organizations. It wasn't immediately clear who would accept the award at the Dec. 10 award ceremony. Nobel officials said they didn't manage to speak to any representatives of the quartet before the announcement.....snip~

Tunisia is the only post-Arab Spring country that has turned out moderately well. This is well deserved.

When you consider the extent of the rubble and crushed hopes around them they look like a success story, but unfortunately it's a fragile success. The problem is that Tunisia has now seen an unleash in the Islamist elements that Bourguiba managed to quieten.

At least the Ennahda party seems to be more moderate than the Muslim Brotherhood which it is a part of, but it's hard not to be cynical for the future.

Reminds me of a small upstart bunch of rag bags that broke away from a huge world power and for years it was a VERY fragile- as a war in 1812 showed. The best thing that ever happened to that nation was a huge geographical separation from challengers and a much lower technological plateau that inhibited everything from communications to massed invasions...

Compared to many other 'colonies' of this world power it did seem a lot more moderate- certainly more so than South Africa and India. Brutal conflicts that slaughtered hundreds, thousands of women and children... :peace

Committee chairwoman Kaci Kullmann Five said the prize was meant to encourage the Tunisian people and to show an example for other countries in the region, where the pro-democracy struggle has come to a standstill.

The Peace Prize decision Friday came as a surprise to many, with speculation having focused on Europe's migrant crisis or the Iran-U.S. nuclear deal in July......snip~ same link.

Seems the Euros wanted to show an example of their generosity. Despite another attack in Tunisia. So really this is more about them than the Tunisians.

The comparison of the Jasmine revolution to the American revolution is misguided. Tunisia achieved independence from colonial rule without a single bullet being fired almost 60 years ago. The most recent 'revolution', like the Arab Spring in its entirety, was the rise of Islamist sentiment masquerading as democratic sentiment.
