Donald Trump In 1999: "I Believe In Universal Health Care...It's An Entitlement" From Birth - BuzzFeed News

“If you can’t take care of your sick in the country, forget it, it’s all over. I mean, it’s no good. So I’m very liberal when it comes to health care,” he said. “I believe in universal health care. I believe in whatever it takes to make people well and better.”
</snip>
Speaking with The Advocate that year, Trump said he’d fund his universal health care plan with an increase in corporate taxes.

:lol::lol::lol:

Ooooops. He did it again. Is there a position the Donald has not supported in the past that now aligns against the GOP agenda?

Do you hold all the same beliefs you did 16 years ago? If so, that is a problem of yours. Here is an odd idea: how about arguing against the platform Trump is running on, instead of crying that he is not exactly the same as he was almost 2 decades ago.

The Donald gets busted again for talking bull****. I don't know why I find him to be so fascinating. I know that he's full of more **** than a Christmas turkey.

But he is turning an otherwise election cycle into something really fun to watch. Of course, I would never vote for him. But imagine him sitting in the oval office. That would be some funny ****! :lamoLOL!

Here's an idea: discuss the topic at hand.

I never figured you for a Trump supporter.

Redress WAS discussing the topic at hand. Unless you can show that his mind didn't change and he still holds that position your thread has no real starting point.

the part about me (which she LED with) was not germane in any way.

While I agree that it is perfectly OK to change your mind about various issues over time, people typically don't change their mind about socialized medicine. Its been a topic of discussion for decades.

Besides, Donald Trump doesn't have a platform other than self promotion and intellectual dishonesty. Check his site out, he doesn't even have an issues section: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/

Trumps position is the topic at hand.

I never figured you for a Trump supporter.

I never supported Trump, I just object to really stupid arguments, which is what this thread is.

Geez, now I'm really screwed!

I think the guy's flake, but he just hit (in a positive manner) my #1 voting issue!

Dayem.

I don't support Trump either, but Redress is right. It's stupid to go back 16 years and take what he said and attack it. Trump offers plenty of current thoughts and words to attack. Besides, politicians' beliefs "evolving" isn't exactly a new concept, is it?

Why don't we all get truly honest and admit that The Donald will not win this?

This pretense he's somehow a threat to the nation is lame, the liberals need a windmill to tilt at and so they leap to a geek whose buying some publicity time.

Now if I thought The Donald could actually pull it off, I would vote for him on this issue alone because he's right. If your workers aren't healthy and can't afford care, you have nothing.....

Yes they do, and its not called "socialized medicine" it is called Universal Health Care.

I know about 50 people in Pt Roberts Washington laughed at us Canadians about 16 years ago, now they want to move hear to get care. A lot of minds change when economics change, they can't afford Obamacare

Trump was a democrat until 2009. He had been pro gun control, pro national healthcare, pro Hillary Clinton even giving her $100,000, pro-choice, pro-tax hikes on the rich. Then he switched all his positions and is now a die-hard conservative loved by the tea party.

The GOP had no problem with Romney changing his position on every key issue....I suspect they will have no problem with Trump either.

That isn't true at all. If you paid even a little attention during the last election you would know, without being told, that Romney was not a popular nominee with a very large segment of the party. And if you would be paying attention now, you would understand that most in the GOP are supporters of Trump. Many admire him for a number of different reasons, but he will not be the nominee.

We all know that it's only a matter of time before old quotes are used against a Democratic candidate. Not to mention her husband's indiscretions.

Will you have the same attitude then?

Last I saw he was leading in the race. Kind of hard to do If Republicans don't support him.

It's not Obamacare they can't afford, overall healthcare inflation has actually dropped since the ACA passed. What people cannot afford is a privatized healthcare system. Privatized healthcare is the ultimate market failure in terms of controlling costs. There is a reason why no other modern industrialized nation on earth wants our system and that was every bit the case prior to the ACA as it is today.

What do you think we had this wonderful inexpensive system of great healthcare prior to the ACA and the ACA ruined that? For the majority of Americans the ACA changed little to nothing for them as they are in group plans through their employer or on Medicare.

Really? You have been to Point Roberts and talked to them?

And they were lying to me when they got the bill and found out that what they had before would cost more than double?

Wow, you have your thumb on the pulse of everything in America!

I hope you inform them soon that they really can afford Obamacare and they can quit bugging everyone for sponsorship!
