US not fully prepared for nuclear terrorist attack

No offense but it sounds like the father was a little more intelligent then the son.

Actually, you probably wouldn't have liked him much. I learned liberal values from him.

You might be surprised, I have several Liberal friends who arre not left wing fanatics, sadly none of those are located in DP.

You can't but you can do a hell of a lot more then Obama and his cronies are ding.

Again, spell out what it means to be "fully prepared for a nuclear terrorist attack." Until you do that, this entire thread comes off as nothing but partisan foolishness.

I wonder if those friends ever consider you a right-wing fanatic.

I don't know and neither do you, I do know cutting the defense budget by your Daddy because you hate the military is wrong. He should be increasing it.

All it would take for Navy Pride to be anti-torture if for Obama to come out for it.

Your rant aside... It is a very important part of the debate when you open a thread suggesting we are not fully prepared for a nuclear terrorist attack, presumably because of Obama's administration. If you cannot define what fully prepared means then this is rather useless.

Adding in defense spending and "hate the military" is just partisan rant. As for spending, we spend more on our "defense" than the next 8-10 nations combined (varies based on source.) As for "hate the military," no matter if you are talking about Obama, his supporters, your opposition in this thread, and/or me you have offered little to no proof of that. The OP article does not even hint at that all that well.

Switzerland
After a referendum , the Constitution was amended in 1959 , guaranteeing Government protection of the civilian population in times of national catastrophe.

When I was there in the early eighties, there was a bunker close by , wherever you went, four to five million of them, house building code was air tight cellar doors, every citizen had three weeks of gov issue survival rations etc.

Of course the threat was from the Ivans, with presumably x minutes of warning of incoming, and x steps to the shelters.

I don't think you could "fully" protect the population from the asshats with a nuke in say, Philidelphia. But devastating as that might be, it's a pinprick with reference to the survivabilty of the United States as a political entity.

"fully" protected isn't doable, but we (humans ) are terrible judges of risk.
We scare easy over bee stings.

How devastating a nuclear detonation in the United States would be depends on the yield and where it is. A detonation somewhere in or around the Corn Belt could be catastrophic for the U.S whereas the loss of a major city like Philadelphia would be, aside from the loss of life, negligible. In terms of a nuclear attack, nothing would be more devastating than national disruption of food production and/or distribution.

I agree that it is probable that eventually, if not inevitably, the U.S. will get hit under any number of viable scenarios. It's apretty soft target,by definition any large, comparatively free country is.

E.g(scenarios) the Ivans are getting hungrier, with less control of their nukes, previous U.S oversight of the Russian nukes has deteriotated-half of the material in US nuke power plants are downblended Russian weapons-so I could see it's more probable that a hungry Ivan, or a Russian Ollie North could get a nuke into an asshats hands.

Arguably, for those concerned about nuclear weapons taking out civilians on US soil, you already shot yourself in the foot 60 years ago:

It's only really scary for people who are easily frightened and are afraid of their own shadows.

Is that how you would describe the 3,000 people who were butchered on 9/11........Afraid of ttheir own shadows.

That's the Navy Pride I've come to know and not-love. Never let the lives of dead Americans go to waste when you can use them to derail your own thread.

I call it 1/10 of 1 year's car fatalities.

It no longer makes sense to attack the US mainland w/nukes.

It's much cheaper and easier to attack a major US corporation w/a cyber attack, which effectively gives the attacker conquest over the segment of the US law code controlled by that corporation.

For example, a single cyber attack on Exxon, w/sufficient compromising information recovered on corporate board members, would give the hacker complete control over US energy laws and policy.

An equivalent attack on Exxon, Microsoft, Intel, Goldman Sachs, and Time Warner would mean control of 70-80% of the US govt., including total control of US energy policy, copyright laws, banking legislation, security policies, . . .

Probably could secure somethings better. Though it would be interesting to.see what skeletons Government's corporations have.

Ridiculous reply my left wing friend. God bless those people. May they rest in peace.
