Dick Cheney gave an unflinching defense of the CIA's pos-9/11 torture program on "Meet the Press on Sunday, dismissing criticisms of the program's forced rectal feedings, waterboarding and deaths.

"It worked. It absolutely did work," said Cheney, a driving force behind the George W.Bush administrations use of harsh tactics in response to the 9/11 attacks.

Mr Cheney is certainly entitled to his opinion, but a lot of people on this planet, including me, don't agree and would like to see him put on trial for war crimes.

What do you guys think? Will he ever be VP again?

My FIRST thought when reading the title was "He's going to be in office again?"

Har har. But seriously, I now feel bad about making a joke about torture.

Dick Chaney is the real life embodiment of a Hollywood movie villain. He is trash.

Huh? Of course not. Biden either.

Torture worked for the Bush administration. They were trying to develop their justifications to invade Iraq, not glean truth from anyone. If you torture enough people and lead them correctly, they will say whatever you want to hear. Like a tie in between al Qeda and Iraq. That would be al Libi, don't ya' know? Do you remember, Atta allegedly in Prague meeting with al Qeda to tie 9-11 to Saddam Hussein. I think the investigation needs to go deeper and prosecution needs genuine consideration. Of course, this kind of thing only killed hundreds of thousands or perhaps more than a million Iraqis and killed or wounded or maimed maybe 40-50,000 US soldiers. All built on lies. Like this paraphrase of that old saying that "if you kill one person, you're a murderer, but kill 100,000 and you're a leader." Give them free room and board at the Crowbar Hotel, and the sooner, the better.

Look here's my thing, the US clearly tortured people and what I wish people would do is acknowledge that and if you want to say that's justified you know what I'm cooler with that than people blindly denying the obvious for partisan reasons.

I think Dick Cheney and his comments embody everything that is wrong with our foreign policy. Our decision to torture will keep the US in danger for generations to come. Those images of what we did and the release of this absurd report are all going to ensure future generations in plenty of nations around the globe will continue to view the US as imperialistic, unnecessarily interfering in the actions in way too many nations, unable to be trusted, and overall is a danger to others since we are willing to suspend our principles with striking consistency.

Because we decided to go with torture, we turned enemy combatants into victims in too many eyes around the globe. Because Cheney is asinine enough to suggest he would go with torture again that confirms he would continue to endanger Americans (and our allies.)

War Crimes is a stretch and odds are would not result in action that is meaningful. But listening to this blowhard talk about what we should and should not do, should tell the rest of us he would be unfit to be in a position to make such decisions now or ever. As such, it is not likely that he will hold any future political office. His views are one reason, his health is another, his comments confirm the idea of a future political term for Cheney would be amazingly reckless.

Wrong.

The USA hanged Japanese soldiers after WWII because they waterboarded American POWs. That's a fact.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

no, he'll never be VP again.....

as for "war crimes'... what a bunch of rubbish.
the most idiotic thing we have ever done as a planet is put in place regulations on war/warfare....especially regulations that are so very inconsistent and absurd.

killing is perfectly fine, killing huge amounts of people is fine..causing death in a million and one horrific ways is ok.. just don't cause them any pain or hurt their feelings.
you can even kill civilians and noncombatants by the metric ton... just don't say you intended to kill them.

the whole thing is a joke.

That is not what I said, what I said was "War Crimes is a stretch and odds are would not result in action that is meaningful." That was not a comment the evidence, it was a comment about the likelihood that Dick Cheney would be found guilty of anything. I still doubt he would no matter what is found on our torture program.

You don't think that Hillary and Biden would make a fine pair?

I'm sure that SNL would love to see that happen.

Me too ... I already did.
I was gonna save this for a possible primary matchup but what the heck ... I already posted it once I can always post it again.

There's waterboarding and there's waterboarding ... there's torture and there's torture.
They're not always the same thing to all people.

If Cheney lived long enough to be put on trial I believe that he would be found guilty, but that's not going to happen for reasons that I won't go into.

We are not that far off in disagreement, but I suspect there is not enough nations willing to go along with this. My evidence is the results of the trial by absentia in Malaysia and how little Canada, Spain, Britain, Germany, and Switzerland (let alone the US itself) refused to comply with the court's determinations.

speaking of goose and gander...what sentence did Emperor Hirohito or his executive staff receive?

nevermind, it's a trick question.... they weren't even prosecuted, let alone convicted......( the very people you want to see prosecuted are the ones that won't be)

may I ask why you seem to support the application of Ex Post Facto law which resulting in the execution and imprisonments of thousands?

Irregardless of that, he is given a National MSM platform to spew his garbage. I believe that points to the problem. The CIA has huge media assets, agents and provacateurs and will provide a pulpit for anyone making noises that sound defensive of the CIA, or for any other agenda that the CIA is pursuing. To capsulize, it is a revelation of the CIA controlling our MSM and we need to do something about that.

Dick Cheney is heartless evil trash. If there is a hell, he'll be burning in that pit for sure.

What Cheney and the other war criminals from the G.W. Bush mis-administration did and should be put on trial for were war crimes when they did those nasty deeds.

well, not according to legal counsel... but i can see the argument.

my ex post facto comment was about Japanese being executed and imprisoned for similar "crimes"... that weren't crimes at the time they were perpetrated.

yes, we executed and imprisoned those folks.. we also interned our own citizens ... our courts allowed both to happen.
I'm not sure that is the sort of behavior we need to be holding on a pedestal, though.

in any event, it's wishful thinking.... there will be no prosecutions.. no convictions.. no nothing.

even if you ( the universal "you")believe in the farce that is "war crimes".. you will get no satisfaction.

I'll believe that when the people we're talking about are dead and buried.

Until then there's a chance that they'll be put on trial.
