Dick Cheney Would Torture Again

Its embarrassing for people to keep referring to this as torture.

Ahh yes, Cheney*. Thanks.

I'd hate to smear the name of a guy named Dick Chaney who was not the sociopath Cheney is.

Next time be careful how you smear Darth Vader II.

Dick Cheney gave an unflinching defense of the CIA's pos-9/11 torture program on "Meet the Press on Sunday, dismissing criticisms of the program's forced rectal feedings, waterboarding and deaths.

"It worked. It absolutely did work," said Cheney, a driving force behind the George W.Bush administrations use of harsh tactics in response to the 9/11 attacks.

Mr Cheney is certainly entitled to his opinion, but a lot of people on this planet, including me, don't agree and would like to see him put on trial for war crimes.

What do you guys think? Will he ever be VP again?

Think about this for a minute, our tax dollars are helping keep this man alive so he can stir the pot some more. What he might say could piss off people in other countries. He's a fairly dangerous person.

speaking of goose and gander...what sentence did Emperor Hirohito or his executive staff receive?

nevermind, it's a trick question.... they weren't even prosecuted, let alone convicted......( the very people you want to see prosecuted are the ones that won't be)

may I ask why you seem to support the application of Ex Post Facto law which resulting in the execution and imprisonments of thousands?

No arguing with that logic. We could bat this around all day and in the end we'd probably agree more than not. But this is precisely the kind of blowback that happens when politicians - not citizens - decide to go to war for bull**** reasons. It's all politicized from its inception.

We don't know exactly WTF the CIA was trying to find out. We don't. How urgent was the need for intel? We don't know. What kind of intel? We don't really know?

If America had not been conned into the invasion of Iraq on dubious justifications (plural, as the mission changed often) we might not have been discussing this as we are today. But the mission never was "Kill and conquer", which the US military would have done without question. It was more political than most wars - and they are all political.

I don't know, I still have a bad taste in my mouth from MACV Rules of Engagement. It's even worse now. Now they want Boy Scouts with weapons.

Was the torture productive? Do they know? Are they telling us the truth? I don't know. As I said, we don't know what the hell the CIA was attempting to find out.

The best part about Cheney is that every living liberal quivers in their boots at the mere thought of him. And with his new ticker, he's scarier than ever. :lamo

You make an excellent point. It would not surprise me in the least to find that Chickenhawk Dick, "I had other priorities", Cheney's cowboy comments cause more international animosity toward the US than the torture revelations themselves.

I'm not embarrassed. If you are I suggest you avoid this thread.

This fetish with Cheney is amazing.

No fetish, that chicken**** mother****er is a turd. I'd rather have lunch with Jane ****ing Fonda. Actually, I once refused to take an elevator with Jane Fonda, but that's another story.

... they made a plea deal with MacArthur and Truman. "We'll give you a democratic Great Power ally in East Asia if you let us keep our lives and dignity."

Cheney digging his heels in the sand isn't quite the same.

There is no danger of Dick Cheney ever being VP again in this life time. He was never voted for himself by the American people, but usually appointed to positions....the first GWB administration was stolen via partisan US Supreme Court. Clearly, everyone could see GWB was totally UNqualified to be president....hell, he could barely speak English. He was previously a heavy cocaine user...so much so he damaged his nasal septum; he also was a heavy drinker of hard liquor.

Dick Cheney hijacked the naive GWB admin, and poor Bush jr. never knew what was happening until the sixth year of his presidency. Dick Cheney will never ever admit he made a huge error invading Iraq and the one who authorized the torture program for to admit to such would have him face he's a sinister, thirsty coldblooded monster. Cheney proved he did not have a heart by spearheading the torture regime for those captured.

I do not believe Dick Cheney and those who actually did the torture will ever be prosecuted. President Obama had declined to pursue this course and the Republican's soon to be in control of the Senate and the House would make prosecution a no no event. Dick Cheney is judged in the minds of a significant number of the American public who think he is scum....his nick name is Darth Vader. BTW, because of Dick Cheney, GWB's administration is believed by many to have been the worse in American history.

My response to his interview?

This loser got a heart transplant - denying a potentially decent person the chance to life so this a**hole can live a few more pathetic years?

I say yank it out of his chest and give it to someone truly deserving (a la Monty Python The Meaning of Life) - if he hasn't ruined it yet.

Two things would need to happen,

1. dick needs to shut up

2. msm needs to stop giving him air time

Liberals don't view him as much of a threat now, but some liberal republicans probably wish he'd go away.

So is the one the right wing stirs on Mrs. Clinton, I'll just bet conservatives get tingles up their legs talking about her, well, that, and Obama's golf outings.

The USA hanged Japanese soldiers after WWII because they waterboarded American POWs. That's a fact.
No, it is not a fact at all. No Japanese were hanged because of water-boarding. It's interesting to see how this BS is spread around the internet though.

And you're complaining about torturing terrorists? Why don't leftists call this for what it is?

History supports McCain's stance on waterboarding

By John Frank on Tuesday, December 18th, 2007 at 12:00 a.m.

The morning after the CNN/YouTube debate in St. Petersburg, John McCain remained firm in his stand against the use of an interrogation technique called "waterboarding." He cited solid history to buttress his position.

"I forgot to mention last night that following World War II war crime trials were convened. The Japanese were tried and convicted and hung for war crimes committed against American POWs. Among those charges for which they were convicted was waterboarding," he told reporters at a campaign event.

"If the United States is in another conflict ... and we have allowed that kind of torture to be inflicted upon people we hold captive, then there is nothing to prevent that enemy from also torturing American prisoners."

McCain is referencing the Tokyo Trials, officially known as the International Military Tribunal for the Far East. After World War II, an international coalition convened to prosecute Japanese soldiers charged with torture. At the top of the list of techniques was water-based interrogation, known variously then as "water cure," "water torture" and "waterboarding," according to the charging documents. It simulates drowning.

R. John Pritchard, a historian and lawyer who is a top scholar on the trials, said the Japanese felt the ends justified the means. "The rapid and effective collection of intelligence then, as now, was seen as vital to a successful struggle, and in addition, those who were engaged in torture often felt that whatever pain and anguish was suffered by the victims of torture was nothing less than the just deserts of the victims or people close to them," he said.

In a recent journal essay, Judge Evan Wallach, a member of the U.S. Court of International Trade and an adjunct professor in the law of war, writes that the testimony from American soldiers about this form of torture was gruesome and convincing. A number of the Japanese soldiers convicted by American judges were hanged, while others received lengthy prison sentences or time in labor camps.
