Walmart Threatened Workers For Trying To Organize, Judge Rules

this is oversimplified bull****, and you know it. the problem isn't the laziness of workers. i know, because i live in a town where people work their asses off and get paid **** for it.

no its not, I see it all the time. The only reason people stay in a low level position is if they are lazy or they want to.

you are not part of a union you have 0 right to strike. these workers are not union and protested and basically in a strike or walk out.
they didn't show up to work when they were supposed to.

I would have fired them. hired people that actually wanted jobs and to work.

I am glad to see that a system of labor prevails under which laborers can strike when they want to... I like the system which lets a man quit when he wants to and wish it would prevail everywhere.

Abraham Lincoln

Anybody and group has the right to strike. It's a constitutionally protected right under "redress of grievances".

YOU can run your company any way you want to. The fact remains however that you become a target for an organizing drive.

Any group does have a right to strike, and the company has a right to fire them.

Lol, I pointed this out earlier in the thread. And this is what it basically boils down to for many of the Walmart haters, jealousy of the heirs. Thank you for illustrating my point. :)

:lamo

You missed the entire point of the post.

I'm not jealous of anyone. My needs and wants are satisfied quite nicely.

What I find in people who support this type of imbalance is an immature fawning over wealth and a child like stubbornness to relinquish the hope that maybe one day too it would be they who are in command of such wealth. It is a slavish attitude that makes one think themselves and others are undeserving of more while their idols of industry are by right, entitled to what they have regardless of how their fortune was made.

But if you can't see where the economic injustice of this lies, there is simply no helping you and no reason to have a conversation.

I think what you meant to say was, there is no point in having a conversation with someone, unless they agree wholeheartedly with your worldview.

Says the person who responds to posts by telling the person they're responding to what that person's intentions are and what that person meant to say....

I can't know your heart, that is true. If you say you do care, then I will give that the benefit of the doubt. But just as the road to hell is paved with good intentions, the road to modern liberalism is constructed in much the same way.

Tell me again how higher prices at the grocery store helps people.

paying slightly more for goods will allow workers more opportunity for promotion. right now, you're paying more in taxes to make up for the artificially low prices. wouldn't you rather pay a fraction more for the goods so that workers could actually have a better chance of climbing into the middle class to be taxpayers instead of drawing public assistance?

no its not, I see it all the time. The only reason people stay in a low level position is if they are lazy or they want to.

it must suck to carry that level of contempt for a socioeconomic class. however, believe that if you want. i'm not going to waste any more time trying to convince you otherwise.

The poor don't pay federal income taxes. So that point is moot.

Also, you are claiming a "slight" increase. That's not the case with union grocery stores around here, their prices are significantly higher. So that's two strikes.

Anything else?

i doubt you'd have to pay a lot more for them to get regular raises and more opportunity for promotion.

if you're not willing to do that, enjoy your higher taxes, because you're paying for it either way, and you're going to keep paying for it for the rest of your life, even if Republicans win a massive majority. i guess the illusion of artificially low prices and higher taxes is what you prefer. i prefer giving those workers more chances to not have to draw assistance in the first place.

How is it contemptuous to point out that some people are lazy? Have you ever watched the average shelf replenishment engineer or fast food worker work? I have, and none of them are in any hurry to advance.

Do you think higher pay is going to magically transform a lazy person into a go-getter? Raises have to be earned, not the other way around.

Have you ever had to supervise workers? Most, if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile. In most cases you cannot be overly nice with your charges, or they will take full advantage of that. Respect is a two way street, and cannot be forced.

You can doubt all you want. I just told you union stores have much higher prices. What part of that do you not understand? Do you have any evidence to refute that?

Also, you still have not answered the question of how higher grocery prices helps poor people, who do not pay federal income tax. Care to tackle that one?

Its not contempt its just the truth, you are so ignorant about retail business you couldnt even fathom a % of workers to be management for your ideal upward mobility. I have worked in retail all my adult life, hard workers always get promoted and lazy people always whine about how they got screwed over. You keep on this crusade about how people a stuck in these low level positions yet I worked my way up from the bottom by working hard. It can be done and its not even hard its just that most people arent willing to put in the work

face it, dude. you guys have contempt for labor. you really believe the "makers and takers" nonsense. it's part of why i left the right wing.

i live around a lot of poor people who used to work at factories for decent pay. they now work multiple retail jobs, sometimes as many as three. those jobs still don't pay what the old one did. most of them don't even bitch about it, but their kids have to be on medicaid because our health care system is totally ****ed.

they all work hard. harder than i have to work with a masters degree, and probably harder than you do. think about that the next time you're bitching about the lazy poor on the internet.

Walmart workers already get regular raises and have vast opportunity for promotion

you and i should totally go get a beer downtown. you can tell these people what you really think of them. i'll try to get you out of there with your teeth intact.

your contempt for the average worker is disgusting. i'm not interested in having a discussion with you. peace.

Interesting to end a post "peace" in the same post expressing a desire to place him in a situation where he's likely to get his teeth knocked out.

You surprise me a little, Helix. Not in a bad way, just something I wouldn't have expected.

Gotta love the fictional hard working people getting screwed over by "the man", you have already made you ignorance of retail clear. How do I not count as the average worker anymore just because im not on the lowest rung? If hard workers have no opportunities how did I get my promotions?

eh, i'm still really sick, and i'm able to muster up little patience for those who have obvious contempt for most of my town. they just totally misunderstand the way the labor market has massively changed for the lower socioeconomic class. i see it firsthand, they are my friends, and i want us to help them to get promoted out of it. it's either that or supplement their income with taxes. they want to work, and most of them work really hard. i work really hard, too, and seeing someone working two cashier jobs makes me feel lazy.

How is 25% of the workforce "fictional"? Or are you just saying all low-wage employees aren't hard working?

Not all of them are lazy/incompetent, but the ones that arent dont stay low wage for very long

That's impossible, unless the jobs go with them, because 25% of the workforce will always be low wage. That means, no matter what, in your eyes 25% of workers will always be lazy and incompetent.

Dude, I am a laborer. I have contempt for myself? You don't make any sense.

I work hard, and have my entire life. I am a tradesman.

Why is it so difficult for you to admit there are lazy people? That is the main reason I loathe labor unions. The hard worker makes the same, or even less, than the lazy worker. How is that fair and equitable?

I have no contempt for the poor, nor do I bitch about them. I give my own money freely to the poor.

Its a cycle when hard workers get promoted others will follow in their place and have to work their way up. I obviously haven't met all of the low wage workers but in my experience any one them who were low wage for a long tine were either lazy/incompetent or didnt want to move up. Theres this one kid that works for me now, early 20s not going to college, hard worker shows up every day. Theres a supervisor position open and he would get it if he applied but has not interest in doing anything other than being a stocker and despite Helix's claim that people always want raises and promotions this is the type of **** that really baffles the theorists when they venture into the real world.

how hard is it for you to admit that most of them are hard working Americans who deserve more opportunities to pull themselves out of poverty?

you loathe labor unions? are you living in a company town, hopelessly in debt to your employer, or are you enjoying a two day weekend of dicking around on the internet and bitching about the lower socioeconomic class and how lazy they are? maybe you ought to think about that one for a minute.

no one wants to rob you of ****ing walmart. they are the nation's largest employer, though, and i would like to see them do more to help the average worker to reclaim some semblance of the standard of living that they used to have before manufacturing went to ****. and i'm willing to pay a little more for groceries to get there, because i'm already paying for it in taxes to supplement their artificially low incomes.
