Man Who Filmed Cop Choking Eric Garner Was Indicted (Video).....

Thats why I decided not to go into teaching...but...not really the point. You mention the happy medium, which is REALLY your way of avoiding the point. The point is...if you allow lawlessness, bad **** happens.

No one said anything about lawlessness.

They did not approach Garner to choke him because he was selling cigarettes illegally. They didnt approach him necessarily to arrest him. He did not get put to the ground because he was accused of legally selling cigarettes. For all we know, they would have issued a citation and that would have been the end of it. Does it look like Mr Garner was in any way shape or form receptive to being issued a citation, politely or otherwise? THEN what? Just ignore it because the lawbreaker says 'leave me alone'?

While he should not have resisted arrest, the violent actions taken to subdue him (and ultimately kill him) were excessive. What the heck do you think would happen to me as a teacher if I had done what this officer did to a student for a similar offense?

We don't know if he wasn't asked politely first.

Maybe. Maybe not. However they approached the man at first does not justify how it ended up.

In any event, when a police officer tells you to give them your hands, it's not a polite request, it's a command. As it should be.

"Give them my hands" as in being arrested or being searched? I absolutely DO NOT have to give them my hands unless I am being arrested right then and there.

You're watching way too much TV. "Happens all the time". :lamo

I don't watch TV... it rots the brain.

I learned enough growing up to know what the cops are capable of. See, unlike you, I actually relate to my community and find out what goes on.

There are lots of good cops, and lots of bad cops. It's you who needs to stop watching TV.

Lord...its funny you think that was a 'violent action' or that it 'killed him'. DO you also think Elvis' toilet bowl killed him?

As a teacher you have avenues. If a student ignores you and just blows you off, you refer them to the dean, the principal, have them suspended...WTF ever. In this case a cop responded to a call. Asked the guy questions. He became belligerent and uncooperative. We apparently both agree...he shouldnt have resisted arrest. But he DID. So what happens in your world when criminals learn all they have to do is tell a cop to leave them alone and the cop is left to do...nothing?

Can we please end the drama? Please? He wasnt beaten to death for selling cigarettes illegal. He wasnt choked to death. He wasnt killed. The officer approached about an alleged crime, one he has had numerous citations for, and he resisted. The physical exertion cause him to go into cardiac arrest and he died an hour later. The end.

Yeah, right. Unlike you I actually know the people around me, including the police officers who live and patrol my community. I even know the criminals who complain about the police. I call bull**** on the TV business. You're reading right from a TV script.

My home does not have a television. Aside from not wanting to, I don't have time anyway. Besides which, I don't need to explain my experience to you. If you think you know the police then good for you. The way you talk comes across as privileged and therefore ignorant of how other groups have to endure police corruption and brutality.

I've lived in NYC. The only place that cops are more corrupt is perhaps Chicago, or Florida State. If they decide that you've crossed the blue line they can easily plant evidence. Like I said, happens all the time whenever someone crosses them. You should see what they do to their own people who tattle. If an officer can get away with choking someone to death it should be a clear indication of the systemic problems going on.

Get your head out of the sand.

Funny how the worst places you describe, with the worst cops are liberal havens. Did you forget LA?

I'm not privileged, except to have never had the desire to take residence in an anthill. I'm not wealthy, at least not monetarily, nor do I live high off the hog. I identify with people from all economic classes and grew up dirt poor. You city dwellers, I don't think you know what it means to actually know your community. They're too large for you to personally know everyone and you may not ever come in contact with a police officer on a personal, individual level. How many of your direct neighbors do you really know, have regular conversations with, know their lives and what they do, their families?

Not really sure how that's relevant to what we're talking about.

You're preaching to the choir. I not only left the big cities, I left the United States. My family is safer where we are now, and our community is more close knit than ever.

Urban centers have major social problems all because there is lack of community and more scarcity. To be fair, people used to be able to live in them more affordably, but with the growing disappearance of the middle class it's becoming a rich vs. poor situation.

That little tactic doesn't work for you either way. Because they seem to be from your accounts "attracted" to you.
No not really. I have only ever been arrested once, and in that case I got pulled over for being white in a neighborhood where white people apparently go to buy heroin... I had some weed on me...

Furthermore I don't see how that's relevant at all. It still works in my favour because were arguing about if all pigs are corrupt. I was seeing if that was a admission that they are...

No it shouldn't, and he was not.

Pigs don't deserve the power they have. Most deserve to be in jail. The rest deserve to pay reparations and do community service for all the harm they have caused to community's around he country.

Are you admitting cops are almost all crooked and that's why their "attracted" to criminals?

No. Actually. People who believe police officers are mean, vengeful, angry, bitter racists, are seeing a reflection of themselves.

Those who see them as helpful, positive, respectful, and protecting are also seeing their own reflection.

I think there is a happy medium between asking politely and delivering a chokehold. If you don't agree then let me just say I hope you're not a school teacher.

...or that your students weigh 400 pounds...

FFS, conservatives go ape**** every time Obama thinks about an executive order, whine and whine about he's shredding the constitution, but at the first sign of criticism of a cop, you're willing to throw out the whole bill of rights.
Hmmm. Obama has disregarded the Constitution and set himself up as our Dear Leader, The One on the golf course.

And many of you want to throw out a grand jury decision not to bring charges. I think those of us who support the grand jury process and oppose the Imperial President are consistent.

Your mileage may vary.

So, you show you not only do not understand statistical probability, but you also don't understand police departments. Try as you might, those departments are local, have local rules and policies and are under local control.

They are way less local today. They are responding to Eric Holder's Justice Department demands to comply or be investigated. Our local police are being nationalized. When Holder comes knocking he needs to be met at the door with plenty of armed men.

Do teachers where you are have the state's power to arrest people? Awesome. I bet the discipline in your school is pretty good.

It was actually the Beginning. We now know that for the Left there are people to fat to be arrested.

Hilarious propaganda. You have never talked to a off duty pig, or you are a pig....

Those that support pigs are authoritarian scumbags who also want to inflict their will and morality on everybody else.

Pigs attacking people for no reason or greatly abusing their power and KILLING people for very minor infractions, or no reason at all.
Its always fun watching a pure bigot in action. Go man, go!

Are you calling me a bigot?

I suggest you go look in a mirror, or at a pig....

He wasnt executed. He wasnt killed. He wasnt choked to death. He never stopped breathing during the 'chokehold'. He had a cardiac arrest and he died. Grossly overweight and morbidly obese people should not resist arrest.

Posts like this are proof of your bigotry and lack of caring for human life.

I can see it now. instead of being a cat burglar, a bank robber just has to balloon up to 500 pounds and waddle in and demand money. If the bank doesnt give it to him, he can sue. If the cops try to stop him (or her...lets not discriminate) they can just tell the cops to **** off...leave them alone, and threaten to die of a massive coronary if they attempt to stop them.

Policemen are never off duty..I remember a local barmaid who's husband was a policeman.. When he was off..he used to sit in the beer gardens outside with his kids..watching how much everyone drank..If it was too much..he would phone the cop shop giving them the vehicles registration..the police car used to hide up..300 yds down the road and nab em..

Lets see...someone that makes blanket assertions towards all members of a group (and suggests if they arent actually guilty they are guilty by association) and continues to make derogatory comments of all based on the actions of some...I would say you qualify perfectly. And its OK...you have a constitutionally protected right to be a bigot. Just dont get all defensive about it. Be PROUD you are a bigot. Be proud you are prejudiced. Any other groups you hate? Conservatives? Christians? Blacks? Jews?
