Man Who Filmed Cop Choking Eric Garner Was Indicted (Video).....

This doesn't look good for the NYPD huh? What do you think about this guy who took the video of Garner? Is he telling stories or the truth?

Ramsey Orta, the man who filmed New York City Police Officer Daniel Pantaleo applying a fatal chokehold to Eric Garner on July 17, was indicted by a grand jury in Staten Island, New York.

According to the Staten Island Advance, Orta was indicted on weapons charges after an arrest on Aug. 2 in the St. George neighborhood of Staten Island. "They lying on me, they doing me wrong," said Orta after he pleaded not guilty in August, noted the New York Daily News. "I've been harassed by the police since this whole video." Orta's mother told CBS New York that police had been following her son ever since he filmed Garner's death (video below).....snip~

I am furious!!!

It was NOT A FATAL CHOKEHOLD!!! The media makes me ill.

The prosecutor has to work with the NYPD, and Grand Juries generally do what the prosecutor wants. He didn't want the personal political repercussions, so he made it so the Feds had to prosecute, and not him.

Which is why the laws need to be changed so that an "out of town" prosecutor is brought in for such cases.

from the OP article
"Orta was indicted on weapons charges after an arrest on Aug. 2 in the St. George neighborhood of Staten Island."

His arrest has nothing to do with the filming. I imagine a defense attorney will claim they are related somehow. Seems Orta is of the "not my fault" crowed. Don't carry a weapon unless your authorized.

Heya Maggie.

That's Right it wasn't.....as the GJ saw the video and after the guy said he couldn't breathe the first time. They saw the cop release the Chokehold.

I just don't know how they missed the guys face being mashed into the sidewalk......cuffs were on then.

Why do I believe this guy? Normally I would write it off to paranoia or attention getting. But for some reason I buy his story

So you think it's coincidence that a person who took a video of the NYPD choking a man - would get arrested soon after? You also think it's coincidental that his wife was arrested after?

Ramsey Orta says he's 'a hundred percent sure' he's being set up on gun charges after taking Eric Garner video (with audio) | SILive.com

Police also arrested 17-year-old Alba Lekaj, of the 100 block of Swan Street, charging her with criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana. She was released on her own recognizance after her arraignment Sunday.

"I don't know her," he said, claiming that he ran into her outside the KFC, and she said she had just returned from a vacation in New Jersey. "Two minutes beforehand, she told me that her dad is gonna arrest me."

He added, "He was an undercover cop that moved from Connecticut... and he was telling her that he'd seen my picture in the paper and he knows I sell her dope before, so he wanted to lock me up."

Orta said, "I'm a hundred percent sure this is a set-up."

Kind of interesting, wonder if there is any fact behind it.

Heya F&L. :2wave: Yeah, to much coincydincy for me. His family might want to get some cameras and put them up around their home.

This guy is an idiot.

NYPD chokehold videographer: cops

He has priors involving weapons, was in a known drug area, and had a weapon on him which he then gave to a minor in hopes that the cops wouldn't find it on him. If he thought the cops were following him and harassing him and he still had a gun on him, then I feel no pity for him.

Well now, if that isn't a heavily slanted article. "The petty thief who..." kind of sets the tone.

Priors have nothing to do with the present situation although there are many who would like to make one believe that.

Of course. **** like that happens all the time.....in comic books. NYC is what ten million people? What are the odds?

Yeah. I've never seen a cord accidentally come unplugged or a battery accidentally run out of juice. Where there's a will there's a way, my friend!

They are actually being tested here with about 120 in the field. And the VPD members are lobbying for 100%. They have almost eliminated the thousands of fake complaints they have to investigate each year.

Footage of one incident is about to be used in as evidence to convict in an aggravated assault.

The guy is a criminal who was caught in a criminal act.

I'd say slimmer than Eric Garner, that's for mother****ing sure.

Well, if it works then that's wonderful but in my experience just because something works in Vancouver doesn't mean it will work in Brooklyn.

The guy was already in trouble with the law prior to being arrested. He already had three cases pending against him before being arrested on the gun charges. Doesn't look like the police need to set him up; he does a great job of that himself.

Yeah but even if he is a criminal.....what criminals can't tell the truth of something?

I think many conservatives feel conflicted here, criticize our "wonderful" officers in blue who enforce nanny state policies... or attack the minority rabble rousers who disobey these laws?

Liberals could feel similarly conflicted. Here we have someone involved in some sense in that police choking case so that, alone, makes him a hero but he has a gun charge and many liberals hate guns.

Well, no conflict here. This liberal is a proud 2nd Amendment supporter. ;)

Heya X. :2wave: Well he does have one for robbery and for punching an old man collecting bottles.

Despite Orta's claims and a not guilty plea, a Staten Island grand jury indicted him Wednesday with single felony counts of third-degree criminal weapon possession and criminal firearm possession. Orta is also accused of misdemeanor weapon possession and has two cases currently pending — one for accused robbery and the other for allegedly punching a man collecting bottles outside of his home.

Chrissie Ortiz, Orta's wife, called the charges against her husband “total BS.” She was arrested herself in August for an alleged assault between her and another female. “I'm just worried about my husband and getting out the truth and making sure justice is served for Eric Garner and my husband, ” Ortiz said.....snip~

NYPD Officer Who Fatally Choked Eric Garner Wasn't Indicted, Man Who Filmed the Incident Was - TheWrap

Oh, Black and yellow eh.....is that Hat tilted to the Left? :2razz:

Ok but you gotta believe cigarettes to be weapons of mass destruction though, right? Selling "loose" cigarettes....think of the children.

But he took the video! We should never charge him with any of his crimes again! That goes for his family too.

Selling loosies, tagging, rolling bones in the alley, etc. It's all small stuff. Nobody should hassle with it.

Except that it never ends there.

One day someone gets pissed someone moved in on "their" territory and throws a punch. The "victim" comes back with a motorcycle chain. Next thing you know there's a gun, sad as it seems, little Suzy who was just playing on her doorstep gets an "accidental" bullet in her head.

You can't just let "the small stuff" go. All that does is set a precedent for bigger stuff.

I'm glad you're not a cop anymore.

Well, in this instance and given what they charge for them, isn't that a large share of the clientele?

I suspect its the police taking care of their own and showing gang like behaviors

Usually this is the first sign if departmental corruption

I believe they have made their choice.

Or it could be the case of an attention seeking criminal getting the attention. Funny how that sort of behavior doesn't always work out the way you'd thought it would.
