    Probably not.

The only message that seems to be promoted by riots is, "Hey, we're going to take advantage of an opportunity to run wild and steal stuff!"

I suppose you would like them to just sit down and be quiet? That really shines a light on the cause, now doesn't it? Maybe they could each write a letter to the editor?

Sorry for the inconvenience, but it seems that effective protests involve people getting in the way.

...and, if you don't pay attention to this level of "in the way", the level of "in the way" gets escalated. There is a real issue to be heard. If people do not chose to hear it at this level, be prepared for the "volume to be raised".

"But at the same time, it is as necessary for me to be as vigorous in condemning the conditions which cause persons to feel that they must engage in riotous activities as it is for me to condemn riots. I think America must see that riots do not develop out of thin air. Certain conditions continue to exist in our society which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. But in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard." Martin Luther King, Jr.

No Thanks, and MLK wasn't always right. Riot is the proof the unheard should never have been noticed in the first place. Once you riot your status changes immediately to criminal that everyone serious scoffs at.

Give it up, you aren't going to be successful here or anywhere talking up riots and making excuses for rioters.

That is so true, but unfortunately it seems like those who really need that message never get it.

No one has to sit down and be quiet in the USA, but those who engage in riots and property destruction are likely to end up behind bars.

I'd also ask the protestors if they really want to use Brown as their martyr.

As with anything there is a right way to getting in the way and a wrong way. Ferguson's nights of looting, burning, violence and calls for "burning this bitch down" isn't the right way.
I agree with the above. I was only pointing out that if people don't listen and work to effect change, the protests naturally escalate. In my previous link, MLK, who championed non-violence, understands (and warns us) why civil protests become uncivil and violent (riot).... its because no one listened up to that point. Hence the quote "riots are the language of the unheard".

You have much to learn about nuance. I never once made excuses for rioters, nor did Dr. King. I merely pointed out why riots exist (or I should say, I merely illuminated what Dr. King had to say on the matter).

As a matter of illustration, if a government does not deliver for its citizens and the situation can not be rectified civilly, eventually you will have revolution. That is a matter of political science: its not justifying the revolution, its explaining why they occur.
