President Obama will announce Thursday that he will use his executive authority to expand temporary protections to millions of undocumented immigrants, according to several individuals who have been briefed on the decision. Obama will travel to Las Vegas on the heels of that announcement to rally support for his initiative on Friday.Congress will receive official details on the move Thursday, according to a senior Democratic Party official.
Even before final confirmation of the president’s plans, outside advocates began readying events to promote the administration’s immigration policy.
“We hear there will be a prime time Thursday evening announcement (to preview) and full unveiling in Vegas on Friday,” immigration advocate Dawn Le wrote in an email to other activists, which was later inadvertently sent to a group of reporters Wednesday morning. “Can folks begin to work and plan watch parties for Thursday and/or Friday? Unclear whether Thursday night content will be what is "celebratory", but Friday will be where we need a lot of energy guaranteed.”

Correction: This report incorrectly attributed strategy comments to AFL-CIO spokesman Jeff Hauser rather than immigration advocate Dawn Le.
Tom Hamburger, Jerry Markon and Robert Costa contributed to this report.

What gets me is that a lot of what they are saying he is proposing makes a lot of sense, and I think would be supported by many republicans so I am not sure of why he is moving so fast on this? I think the biggest hurdle for most American's (If you look at polling data) is the securing of the border, and hash penalties for employers of illegals. None of which was included in the expected EO. Look, more than any other issue in this nation I think here is where BO is missing a huge opportunity for true bi-partisan support. I can't fathom why he is pushing so hard unless he's really just looking for a fight?

Impeach the fool, doesn't Mexico need a new president? Maybe the asshole can get work down there.

Of course not, because then it might be effective.

We are really going to have a big fight now in order to stop the government from addressing a national problem. Not even about which solution is best, just to prevent there being a solution at all. How did we go from two parties that have different policy, to one that thinks we should have a functioning government and one that doesn't?

It's not, actually. Those are just the Fox News talking points. The rest of the country recognizes that our borders are huge, understands that people walking north from Mexico accounts for less than half of illegal immigration, and actually just wants to integrate the people who are here. That's the majority opinion. Most Americans don't want to punish anyone. They just want things to work better.

Just got an update from The Hill (magazine), states that: "Obama to make immigration announcement in primetime Thursday address"

As I see it, the Senate passed an immigration reform bill, but Boehner has stated that he will never bring the bill to a vote in the House. He said, instead, that the house would craft their own bill. I can't seem to find that bill. And this is over a year later. If Boehner won't act, I have no problem with the President using his authority to get immigration reform done.

Will be interesting to see what actually is announced and thus have something concrete to actually talk about.

If it's simply TEMPORARY allowance to remain in this country, no matter how wide spread, as this article suggests then I don't think Impeachment or a shutdown is reasonable, however I do think such will absolutely poison the well from the very onset between this President and the next congresses on immigration and likely many other issues as well.

Obama probably figures he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. If the Congress does what McConnell says, Obama will be busy vetoing bills the next two years looking like an obstructionist.

So you don't mind him breaking the law?

I find the whole polarized debate about immigration to be a bait and switch, no matter which side of the political spectrum is talking about it.

Whether illegal immigrants get a crackdown or more forgiving laws, the multinational corporations that employ them along the southern borders aren't going to receive fines heavy enough to stop them from illegally employing these people. Successive administrations have shown time and time again that they won't go after big businesses who are hiring illegals.

We have bus loads of illegals being transported from their shanty camps to work sites every day in the south. It's not even like these illegals are hard to find. They're sitting right next to Americans who are on welfare and whose foodstamps come with the stipulation that they also work in such camps.

All this fighting is for naught. If you really want to stop illegals then you need to stop the companies who are employing them, which is NOT happening.

You're nuts if you think MOST American's don't want to secure the border, and it isn't all about Mexico and illegals walking through. It has become a national security issue for most of us. As far as punishing employers of illegals; It is the single best way to stop illegal immigration cold, and we wouldn't need to build any expensive fences or hi-tech monitoring.

;)

Regardless of when President Obama announces his plan to give work permits and Social Security numbers to millions of illegal immigrants, House Republicans are now expected to pass a short-term government funding bill early this December that will allow them to defund Obama's work permit giveaway early next year.

The Washington Examiner's David Drucker reports:

This stopgap measure could take two forms, depending on the scope of an executive order. It could fully fund the government at current levels, including the Department of Homeland Security that oversees immigration, and run through February or March. Or it could provide for a short-term continuing resolution for DHS while fully funding the rest of the government through the remainder of fiscal 2015. The latter option is favored by Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., the likely next chairman of the House Budget Committee......snip~

Let the games begin.

If Republicans do decide to fund the rest of the federal government, while passing a separate funding bill that specifically limits Obama's ability to implement an executive amnesty, even Senate Democrats acknowledge that would be a perfectly legitimate tactic.

It happens all the time,” retiring Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) told National Review last week. “That’s not uncommon that there’s amendments saying ‘none of the funds in this appropriation bill may be spent for’ — fill in the blank,” Levin said.

Asked specifically whether Republican attempts to defund Obama's amnesty could be called "an effort to shutdown the government," Levin disagreed. “That’s not slash-and-burn. That’s not bringing down the government. That’s a fairly traditional, targeted approach to make a policy point.” .....snip~

Perhaps House Republicans could try passing their own immigration reform bill? Why not work for better immigration reform and not against a President?

Obama only wants one thing. Amnesty. That's why he's pushing so hard.

The Senate bill will give him his amnesty. Whatever the Republicans come up with most likely won't...at least, not the kind of amnesty he wants. Because of that, he is willing to threaten...and, it now appears, to actually do it...executive action to force the Republicans to rubber-stamp that massive Senate bill.

For Obama, it's all about politics...not about actually dealing with any problems we might have with legal and illegal immigration.

The Republicans, to their credit, seem to be holding firm to their belief that the best way to deal with these issues is to handle them in reasonable, effective, bite-sized legislation.

How about one that legalizes those here with a Permanent green card, No US Citizenship and No Right to Vote!

The Demos won't like it.....but tell them to man up. Is it about the people or their party's political aspiration? That's how the Repubs should set the argument up with all those That came here legally and followed the Law to gain their status and their Rights.

BREAKING: Amnesty Executive Order Announcement Coming Thursday in Prime Time Address

UPDATE: This could get awkward. JUST IN: Obama has invited senior lawmakers to dinner tonight at the White House to explain his #immigration decision, several aides say.

UPDATE: By the way, the Washington Post editorial board has already advised against this course of action. Oh well.

UPDATE: Republicans will not be attending the White House dinner tonight after all. Confirmed: Obama didn't invite top GOP leaders to attend his #immigration dinner tonight with senior Democrats.....snip~

I don't know, may House Democrats don't like the policies being considered. Maybe Boehner knew his bills were DOA in the Senate with Senator NO as majority leader.

That, I believe, is the plan.

And the new congress is to start bundling, putting stuff Obama wants in with what he has to veto......he either reverses himself or obstructs.....all of which becomes an election issue Hillary will have to account for
