I suppose it depends on what point one is trying to make.

In some contexts, I can see it as entirely legitimate to describe someone as “poor” who is receiving outside support in order to maintain a comfortable standard of living, but who is not able to earn enough on his own to be self-sufficient. Such a situation can be used to support a claim about how well our society takes care of those who cannot take care of themselves, but it remains, nevertheless, highly unfortunate when one is not able to honestly earn his own living.

Critics contend that HUD's method grossly underestimates the extent of child homelessness and results in inadequate resources for local governments to combat it. They prefer the Education Department method that includes homeless families who are staying in cheap motels or doubling up temporarily in the homes of friends or relatives.

When you stay in a cheap motel or live in the homes of friends and relatives, you aren't homeless by the definition I was raised on.

The point they are trying to make is that folks living in shelters are just as homeless as one living on a steam grate or park bench.

The point that I was trying to make is that one is not homeless simply because they are unable to pay their rent by working. Whether in housing funded by insurance, gov't assistance or charity if they are not on the streets or camping in a tent or car then they are not homeless. If you have decent shelter that is simply temporary then you are not homeless.

This has been a growing problems since Reagan. Please do your research for crying out loud.

And please tell me what republican policy has been brought to the table to solve this?

Lowering taxes and getting rid of regulations ????

I think everyone is missing the point. The problem is trickle down economics. This massive amount of wealth the rich are making now isnt being trickled down. Its being hoarded at the top. Trickle down economics, and neo-liberal economics is ****ing this country and ****ing the mass amount of people.
