Krauthammer: 'Impeachable Offense' [W:406]

Re: Krauthammer: 'Impeachable Offense'

Will Congress try to impeach a President for using executive power to make sweeping immigration law changes, and is it warranted?
Yes. I hope so. I want the president punished. Prison would be barely acceptable.

Re: Krauthammer: 'Impeachable Offense'

First off what crime is being alleged? Presidents get impeached for breaking the law. Testing the bounds of presidential authority or putting forth an unconstitutional order are not crimes. So the whole impeachment things sounds like political talk and not something that's legal reality.

What is Obama claiming as legal authority for granting amnesty?
No. High crimes and misdemeanors might be breaking the law. Or it might be violating the Constitution.

I want him out of office. I want him in prison for the rest of his life.

Re: Krauthammer: 'Impeachable Offense'

Impeachment requires an actual crime or an act directly in conflict with the president's duty to work for the good of the nation and the American people. Arguably going beyond his authority in order to actually do some governing when congress won't is hardly either of those. Congress is welcome to attempt to rein in presidential power via legislation or constitutional amendment, but it would have to apply to the office itself, not just this president that they don't like.

Andrew Johnston didn't commit an actual crime.

Prison is the only legally acceptable option.

I think we can expect Mr. Obama to show even more contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law than he has for the past six years. He seems to have calculated that visions of riots in the streets will intimidate Republicans so badly they would never dare impeach the first black President--and especially when voters might think that was mean-spirited and hold it against them in the 2016 election. Arrogant as he is, he may think he's free to do as he damn well pleases.

As brilliant as Trey Gowdy is, the comment someone quoted by him doesn't make sense. The fact Biden is Vice-President is hardly a good reason not to impeach President Pinocchio. His impeachment would not automatically make the Delaware Dunce President. Pinocchio almost certainly could not be convicted even if impeached, so he might very well choose to stay on, just as B.J. Clinton did.

Impeachment is the right thing to do if we want to retain our country.

Impeaching the president will never fly because the main stream liberal media will never allow the American people to hear the facts, so in my opinion it simply isn't an option...

Now with that said...

Krauthammer's analysis, opinions and comparisons on the legality and future consequences of Obama taking action on the immigration issue, was absolutely spot on. It's simply mind blowing how democrats in Washington and the people on the political left are perfectly content with Obama taking such action. In my opinion it's quite a blow to the credibility of the political left and brings into question whether they can be trusted to govern this nation in the future.

I know that my words may strike some, especially those on the left, as being harsh but just think about the precedent Obama will be setting and ask yourself if you will feel comfortable with a Republican president being able to do the very same thing with the laws and issues that are of great importance to you? If you can honestly say that you would be comfortable with that, then go after me with both guns... But if you can't, then it's about time that you, and every single liberal who feels the same way, to use your voices to stop this from happening.

Why not lynch him,?

Re: Krauthammer: 'Impeachable Offense'

Exactly. The poster's assertion is nonsense. Impeachment is mainly a political act, and it requires whatever transgressions the House wants to make it require. Nothing says the offense can't be largely trumped up. President Johnson wanted to remove Stanton, the Radical Republicans' ally and his antagonist, as Secretary of War. The whole reason for passing the Tenure of Office Act was to infringe Johnson's authority so far, by requiring him to get Congress's approval to remove Stanton, that he could never comply with the law. And when he didn't, his violation of the law gave the abolitionists in Congress their official reason to impeach him.

Impeaching Johnson was part of a series of interrelated political maneuvers I won't get into here, but it's a very interesting story. As you suggest, though, Johnson's impeachment is proof that claims about having to commit crimes, etc. are just drivel. All sorts of acts can be made to qualify as high crimes or misdemeanors. The impeachment process is nothing like ordinary criminal procedure in a civil court. It's just a way to remove an official when enough people are fed up with him.

Re: Krauthammer: 'Impeachable Offense'

Wasn't Krauthammer saying that Benghazi was an impeachable offense? Whatever happened to that story anyway? *crickets*

It boils down to a lack of understanding of The Constitution and a lack of historical knowledge. The neo-communists Liberals get all their information for their NCL blog sites.

Boy I sure hope so. And no.

Re: Krauthammer: 'Impeachable Offense'

That's bull****.

How's it feel to see your NCL ideology fall apart, before your very eyes. I understand your consternation; you've carried a ****load of water over the years.

Now that is funny considering the source of this op is Faux News :lamo:lamo

Re: Krauthammer: 'Impeachable Offense'

Andrew Johnston didn't commit an actual crime.

And he wasn't convicted. And his impeachment, just like Bill Clinton's, was a partisan political circus that had nothing to do with good governance, the constitution, separation of powers, or any other facet of law. So what's your point, other than demonstrating that conservatives would be following that same shameful tradition of partisan nonsense if they attempted to impeach this president as when they tried last time?

I agree. I want him...well. In order to stay I shall not say.

Free elections really bother you, huh?

As usual, with the NCL's, you have nothing to refute the accusation.

You are fixated at media, everything is the media with you. If the Republicans impeached him, his approval would likely soar as President Clinton's did. If they successfully impeached they could never get the 67 votes in the Senate to remove him from office.

You are right I certainly can't refute fascist wing nut delusions.

Apparently, "Neo-Communist Liberals." Certain posters around here here have been tripling down on the insane hackery the last day or two.
