New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known cases in US [W:115]

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

No. They must be balanced. Freedom can only be restricted when there's a compelling to and no less offensive remedies. In this case
quarantine was not medically justified.

I think it was balanced. We had others that were sick, dying, dead and some that had already traveled. I think, while not pleasant, she was treated alright.
Being a "medical professional", you would think she would put others a head of her petty needs.
But clearly her and many of her ilk are only in it for the money.

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

Like I said, people like you get people killed.

There are other diseases that are much more widespread and kill more people than Ebola, already in this country and abroad. What makes Ebola worthy of iron fisted quarantine while influenza does not?

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

Where? Not in North America. Come to think of it, if they were healthy, they wouldn't have died.

Ebola can and does many times kill the otherwise healthy. Have you not been paying attention?

Or perhaps being a medical professional she realized that she wasn't a danger to anyone else and saw no reason for the quarantine. Perhaps the governors of NY and NJ pandered to the unwarranted and irrational fears of the electorate to gain popularity and garner more votes in an election year (for Cuomo)

The point of the quarantine is to isolate people who are sick and can infect others. She wasn't sick - they wanted to quarantine her to see if she developed symptoms. Given that the goal of seeing if she becomes sick can be accomplished by much less offensive means and given further that even if she does have the disease she can't transmit it until she does develop symptoms the quarantine was unwarranted.

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

Why, are you that dense?

Tell me, which flights you would ban?

You make a broad statement, now, specify it.

All flights from the 3 ebola countries? All flights from connecting countries (France, Mali, Morocco, Belgium) where flights from the 3 ebola countries land?

Give me specifics on what flights you will have banned?

You are the one being obtuse.

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

That isn't an answer.

Neither have any of your jump the shark posts. You answer appears to be, screw em all, I don't know what I'm talking about and nobody I know will ever get sick, so why is everyone worried.

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

There are other much less onerous ways to do that. Like monitoring her for symptoms while she continues to live her life.

Ineffective. Contagious or symptomatic, which comes first? You want to find out while she's trolling the mall your family is at?

Seems it was pretty effective. She monitored herself and didn't develop any symptoms. Cut and dry, yet you and others want to take away people's freedom in the name of paranoia. Glad you and others are not the decision makers. That's for sure.

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

That all you got at this point?

Yes, you people seem ok with just letting people in from affected areas and just mingle freely. I got nothing for that, other than what I have posted.

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

Please. Public heath officials - that is the CDC - said quarantine was not medically necessary. What is so hard to understand about that?

The problem is the CDC sets the policy according to their needs. In this case they need for healthcare professionals to keep going to ebola zones to help. So they're inbetween a rock and a hard place because those folks just won't go in the numbers needed if they have to face quarantine. But standard CDC infectious control indicates they should be quarantined.

Then the problem grows because as soon as the CDC releases it's recommendations, the media and politicians step in to misinterpret them to suit their own script. Let's take a look at what the CDC really recommends:

Interim U.S. Guidance for Monitoring and Movement of Persons with Potential Ebola Virus Exposure | Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever | CDC. See what category the moron nurse and this doctor were in. Now look at the recommendations for that category of risk, This doctor and the idiot nurse broke every recommendation.

She monitored her self. Grand, and if she just felt like going to a movie and went. Or took someone up on an invite? Let me guess, the police car out front was just for show?

She purposely avoided crowded areas and even said and did as much. Again YOUR paranoia does not trump freedom. Glad you and the other freedom haters didn't get their way and I'm also glad YOU are not in a position to do anything about it. Cons that get on their soapbox about freedom and then are the first ones to try and take it away. Pathetic bunch of ***** liars.

Not in the name of paranoia, in the name of legitimate medically sound caution. She didn't even follow the CDC's guidelines. I too am most glad you are not the decision maker. You seem perfectly fine with making a decision on things you obviously know nothing about.

Now that you've jumped the shark and kneejerked your way out on that partisan limb of yours, read what the CDC recommends. It isn't self-monitoring or being out in public.

No, she avoided crowds because of the police presence.
Freedom hater and *****? Nice name calling son. Grow up.

Don't put words in my mouth. Ebola was never an outbreak in the US. One person brought it in and 2 nurses got it from him. One other doctor had it and infected no one else. No one got if from being on a plane, or at a bowling alley or the subway.

Making laws out of uninformed panic is no way to run a country.

Unless I'm missing something there is nothing in that link that calls for anything more than "direct active monitoring" for asymptomatic people regardless of risk category. Direct active monitoring means checking in with a public health authority, which could be someone in their hospital for health care workers, at least once a day. There is nothing in there that I could find that called for isolation or quarantine of asymptomatic individuals.

Then you didn't read the linked material, or don't understand it. Look down at the table for the high risk category (which is this doctor and that moron nurse), Look at the restrictions for asymptomatic individuals:

Direct active monitoring
•Public health authority will ensure, through orders as necessary, the following minimum restrictions: ◦Controlled movement: exclusion from all long-distance and local public conveyances (aircraft, ship, train, bus and subway)
Exclusion from public places (e.g., shopping centers, movie theaters), and congregate gatherings
Exclusion from workplaces for the duration of the public health order, unless approved by the state or local health department (telework is permitted)

•Non-congregate public activities while maintaining a 3-foot distance from others may be permitted (e.g., jogging in a park)
•Federal public health travel restrictions (Do Not Board) will be implemented to enforce controlled movement
•If travel is allowed, individuals are subject to controlled movement ◦Travel by noncommercial conveyances only
◦Coordinated with public health authorities at both origin and destination
◦Uninterrupted direct active monitoring

They define active and direct active monitoring in the previous sections. It's not what you describe. BOTH these individuals went out in public and would not desist until they were placed in quarantine. And btw, there is a difference between quarantine and isolation. I suspect you and others here aren't aware of that.

Remember, only the idiot nurse was asymptomatic. The doctor was symptomatic and the recommended restrictions there are even tighter.

And listening to the uninformed (you) telling us to not follow standard infectious disease protocols is sheer idiocy. Please, at least educate yourself before you go off calling these measures panic.

I think you'll find that people who die of viral illnesses are quite ill at the time.

Not the point nor is it what is being said.

Re: New York doctor cleared of Ebola, which means there are no known Ebola cases in t

Did she do harm? Did the disease spread? Oh yea it didnt. Oh yea she is fine.

She never was sick. She was imprisoned by a lunatic Governor and then harassed by another one. She didn't have Ebola, she never had Ebola, and the whole thing was a manufactured crisis by a couple of Governor's trying to show how tough they were. I hope she sues the hell out of both of them.

Again, fewer Americans have died from Ebola than have been married to Kim Kardashian.

You only follow infectious disease protocols if, you know, somebody is infected. The nurse wasn't infected and showed no signs of infection at any time.
