The mother of an eight-year-old wants to know why a Tennessee school teacher gave her child a handout from the Nation of Islam that portrayed the presidents on Mount Rushmore as being racists.

Newsflash: In the 1800s, everywhere in the world, everyone was racist. Given this fact, painting anyone from the 1800s as racist is pretty ****ing easy.

Someone needs to explain to the mother that in the 1800s, the world was ****ing racist. Why doesn't she know this? Where the **** did she get educated? Perhaps she should be in class with her child and not complaining about historical facts.

I remember my school received mailings all the time that they would never use in actual classroom materials. It does not sound like it was connected to the approved curriculum or any other student managed to get a hold of the material. It seems to be an isolated incident that has once again been sensationalized by the right wing noise machine.

That doesn't mean it didn't happen. What it likely means is the OP is yet another Fox "News" attempt to create a tempest in a piss pot. In addition I was unable to find any news source other than Fox News reporting the story. Yes, extreme right wing, "patriot" fringe web sites printed the Fox story, but I could not find any other major or local news source corroborating the Fox story. In fact, as far as I can tell no other major or local news source questioned the the Fox story. It is a Fox troll story.

If indeed the event did occur as reported by Fox, it is probably illegal. The Nation of Islam is a religion. Religious literature should not be handed out at or by public schools that receive federal funds. Be that as it may, the information on the pamphlet is basically correct.

Yeah, it is weird. I found exactly zero on this until the FOX opinion piece, then it exploded, and all of the results just copy/pasted the FOX news piece. Meanwhile, in the actual town, they are more interested in a nasty school board fight over the System Superintendent and the budget.

This kind of thing seems to happen alot lately, and is directly tied to the internet. Create a scandal.Does not have to be true, though a kernel of fact helps. Post it on the internet and let the true believers spread it. Twitter and facebook really help with this. Soon people will fact check it and point out it is a lie, but by then no one is paying attention any more. All any one will remember is the initial claim in 6 months, which can then be pointed to as "part of the pattern".

It seems the story may have been overblown but the responses were interesting. Elizabethton City Schools :: Welcome to Elizabethton City Schools

And you think they'd accomplish that by pretending racism never existed?

Do you think that by Muslims pointing out that the US is a racist country is done for the benefit of Americans, by Muslims? The Communists always did the same and it worked then too.

Maybe a Flagellation Day each July 4th would help, where Americans could torture each other for their racist past until they are no longer able to stand, and then they can get on with their lives for another year.

Or maybe Americans should just move and Muslims work at getting their own Mosque in order.
