I guess the possibility that the school was lying given the multiple excuses didn't occur to you.

In the situation as reported in the OP the teacher would have to have been lying to the principal and the principal would have to have assured the superintendent that the teacher was not lying. I would imagine, given the sensationalism caused by Fox, that the superintendent superintendent spoke with the teacher as well. Following that and after the news stories, I can guarantee you that one or more members of the school board have spoken with the superintendent about it. Or it could be as you suggest that there is a concerted effort by all involved to lie about it and blame the child. But, that idea is horse****.
Now we have an anonymous second source reported by the guy who wrote the original story.
Could be the teacher lied. Could be the teacher didn't. It is much, much, much less likely that "the school is lying".
Could be Fox News is lying. It wouldn't be the first time.
