Patient in New York City Tests Positive for Ebola

And remember the CDC says that until the very minute, maybe the very second, that someone shows signs of the Ebola infection---they ARE NOT contagious!

So its safe to have have sex with infected Ebola suspects, give them backrubs, drink after them, breathe their air---just until they start running a fever and feeling bad.

They stay away or face a 50% chance of dying.

The CDC has been thoroughly discredited in this incident, largely because with Obama its about politics. You'd be better served getting data from WHO.

Exactly, but it's worse than that, the CDC already has protocols for dealing with outbreaks, and one of the first things listed is exactly creating quarantine.

Shutting down the borders does not mean that you can't leave, under the circumstance it should be if there's a risk to you than you may have to go into quarantine for a few weeks.

The more it spreads, the more it mutates, the more it mutates the more likely that it will become an airborne virus (from what I've heard that would reduce the lethality of it though), if it goes airborne, because of the slow process before developing symptoms, we would be several weeks behind the ball of where the outbreak is.. and if it did go airborne, then it really becomes the luck of the draw.

Edit: that said, this is concern about the handling of the outbreak... This isn't at a point of panic. If it got to where there were 1000 s of people in my city infected, then I would start to panic some.

I haven't seen panic, Ive seen many people (including with advanced medical training) concerned about the obvious failures of our CDC-its the other side attempting to paint that as panic. As if there isn't cause for legitimate concern. :doh

No, exactly, the only panic is those people that are panicking that the cdc is proving itself completely incompetent in even following their own protocols.

If anyone else is unsure, ebola is classified as a level 4 contagion. So, that means BSL-4 protocols... The sad reality, if there is a serious outbreak, even at my modest threshold of 1000 people in multiple cities coming down with this, simply put, our medical system will have to go into a triage mode, if not begin to collapse outright.

What kind of humanitarian is willing to risk his life by going into an Ebola ward but is also willing to take the risk of coming home and spreading the disease among his countrymen? Maybe that humanitarian needs to stay home, or he simply doesn't exist.

That was untrained airport workers freaking out.

States implemented this policy without actually training anyone or having appropriate staff to deal with the relevant people.

That's just my thoughts as a manager looking from the outside.
