Can't stop ebola without travel ban

A team of physicians with experience in epidemiology and health science research applying scientific methods and statistical analysis have concluded that as long as travel from West Africa remains open, there is no way to stop the international spread of Ebola
The scientific analysis further demonstrates that as the number of Ebola cases in West Africa increases, as the World Health Organization has predicted, the risk of the disease spreading also rises

    Source

Well, I don`t agree. But maybe it possible that one must assume that at some point a few jihadi nutbags are going to try and get themselves infected and travel to western countries for a little slow motion suicide bombing

Really, this should be a no-brainer, except for the fact that some people are hellbent on politicizing the issue.

    DUH!

Still in awe that this hasn't been implemented yet. I've yet to hear an actual valid reason not to.

Preventing travel from the affected countries may be a sound solution provided there are enough resources to effectively seal the border and that's hundreds of miles.

As far as sealing the receiving countries, the danger there is if it's not a direct flight and it's not noticed it leaves a huge risk for an infected person to come in undetected and infect more people before its notices. It's a very risky policy

Not unless we declare war or the country invites us in

I practice medicine and have been saying this for some time. Of note, several African nations have done just this and surprise! No ebola. I started a thread about this a few weeks back.

    Update-he's just tested positive.

If there was a travel ban this poor dr wouldn't have come home and gone bowling, and then what would mayor and governor "D" have to say tonight?
