If true, it was a rather silly thing for a SoS to do.

I still don't know what the point is - it's not like other administration haven't cited national security issues with a media outlet.

Got a problem with the history of past admins?
Not at all as long as there's a point. Is the point according to you, just a nice to know historical question? If so .... okay.
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

W, Cheney, Rice, and Powell all gave the "nuclear smoking gun" speech. They have belittled themselves right before my eyes and ears.

If the story actually did endanger national security then the state was right to put pressure on them to kill it, hell if this was Russia or some other authoritarian state it wouldn't have been a request and Risen would probably be 6 feet under.

Yes, thank you for the correction. But still, my point stands... she was pretty high up to make a personal call.

Another question comes to mind... how did they know about the story? They weren't spying, were they?
“No men are anywhere, and I’m allowed to go in, because I’m the owner of the pageant and therefore I’m inspecting it,” Trump said... “‘Is everyone OK’? You know, they’re standing there with no clothes. ‘Is everybody OK?’ And you see these incredible looking women, and so I sort of get away with things like that.”

I don't know for sure about this particular incident. I do know from reading past memoirs that there have been cases where newspapers have informed the government as a courtesy that they were planning to run various national security-related stories.

Interesting. I don't know how I feel about that. The reporter in the OP regrets killing the story.
