Nearly two decades after a US reporter was humiliated for connecting the CIA to a drug-trafficking trade that funded the Nicaraguan Contras, important players in the scandal – which led to the journalist’s suicide – are coming forward to back his claims.

Back in 1996, Gary Webb of the San Jose Mercury News broke a story stating not only that the Nicaraguan Contras – supported by the United States in a rebellion against their left-leaning government – were involved in the US crack cocaine epidemic of the 1980s, but also that the CIA knew and turned a blind eye to the operation.

As a result, Webb concluded, the CIA was complicit in a drug trade that was wreaking havoc on African American communities in Los Angeles.

The bombshell report sparked outrage across the country, but when national newspapers like the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and Washington Post weighed in on the matter, they dismissed Webb and attacked his story to the point that it was disowned by the Mercury News. Webb was forced out of journalism and ultimately committed suicide in 2004.

Now, however, the whole ordeal is being looked at with fresh eyes in the form of two new films: “Kill the Messenger” and a documentary called, “Freeway: Crack in the System.” Additionally, several figures involved in the operation have recently spoken out, lending further credibility to Webb’s original reporting.

And CIA testimony before Congress has admitted their involvement even more so than Webb had initially stated. You will get better information at consortiumnews.com, Robert Parry's website. CIA and opium from the Golden Triangle in Vietnam. CIA and cocaine from South America. How about CIA and opium from Afghanistan. Gosh, could there be a common link in these activities?

Lol!!!

Gary Webb committed suicide? They found TWO bullet holes in his head.

Read up on Mena Airfield and who was involved in the coke trade. I have no doubt whatsoever that the US was involved in the importation of drugs through South America though I'm not convinced of the claims that it was a conspiracy specifically against blacks. I'm pretty sure that the primary objective was to secure a source of "off the books" revenue to fund anti-soviet interests.

Nor are most rational people. This one that fits nicely under Occam's Razor. Whats more plausible, the CIA was involved in the drug trade during the tail end of the Cold War in a strategic effort to combat Communist influence in SoAm or they concocted it to unleash a drug epidemic in the inner cities of America. Kind of a no brainer.

I thought the two bullet holes was suspicious, but he had notified a friend, had arranged to have his dog taken care of, and left a note on his door to have whoever read it call 911. I still find the CIA involvement in drug activities for the last 50 years to be suspect. I do not view CIA as anything except a intelligence arm/representative of US BIG Corporate interests. The CIA is death squads, School of the Americas, drugs, false flag events, subversive militant operations (al Qeda, ISIS, etc.), arms smuggling, treasonous conduct (Iran Contra, Latin America, South America), rogue banks (BCCI and many others registered in Panama), and the agency more likely works for David Rockefeller than for you, and me, and Grandma. Unfortunately, it is a huge bureaucracy that doesn't come up for election every few years. It is entrenched and has continuous aims, and I don't see those aims as beneficial to the average voter. JFK was going to gut the Agency and Jimmy Carter fired a thousand CIA personnel. The CIA seems to control major media i.e. NYTimes, LATimes, Washington Post, all Rupert Murdoch media, Ted Turner, etc. Then the CIA crooks like Ollie North don't get prosecuted. They get a pat on the back instead. I think they work against the interests of the USA taxpayer and for the interests of oversized Corporate interests.

RT is the equivalent of the Reich's ministry of propaganda so yes the source is not credible.

the funny bit is that you folks are attacking RT because i linked to them.. this story has been rehashed many times from many different sources. which in itself again, backs up my earlier statement....

I am attacking RT because it is the modern day equivalent of Der Spiegel under the Reich you might as well be using prison planet or info wars as far as credibility goes. If you want to be taken seriously provide reliable citation. Your little google search link does nothing to bolster the claims made in the OP, I suggest perhaps a undergraduate level English class.
