Stanford Study Links Climate Change to CA Drought

California was a desert before settlers came. Vast irrigation projects over a hundred years brought life sustaining water to the region and the region bloomed into vast, fertile farmland.

California's Idiots shut off the valley from vast water reserves to save non-indigenous smelt in the reservoirs and the valley returns to desert.... because global warming.

Also, Pro Tip: Natural or Man made, drought by definition is climate change. You sound stupid using the phrase in this case. Like saying that the cause of the flooding in New Orleans was moisture change.

So if they stop irrigating a desert area, it goes back to a desert? Who knew!? [/sarc]

Where are they indigenous to?

Not the man made reservoirs. Between 2009 and 2010 California water authority rerouted 300 billion gallons of water away from farm land and into the San Fransisco bay to protect a fish in reservoirs it didn't belong in.

I think there is a very real man made effect at work in the California drought, but it is brought on by the removal of hundreds of billions of gallons of reservoir water from the regional water cycle. The current desertification is a return to the natural state we found the region in.

So liberals **** something up and then claim they have the solution... which is invariably to **** up more things. And the beat goes on.

Well, technically that's true. If it weren't for the people and animals that need food and water to survive droughts indeed wouldn't matter at all.

Wild animals would be fine as would limited numbers of people. When you move millions of people ,millions of farm animals and millions of acres of crops into a desert you are living on borrowed time.

Stanford scientists say drought linked to climate change

Yeah...Yeah...I know that this is just another study by a left wing university with a secret communist agenda to destroy capitalism through environmentalism...

The climate denialists are quickly becoming the flat earth society.

Let's put it into perspective, okay. Let's negate the boogieman concept and stick to some history.

California's current drought is being billed as the driest period in the state's recorded rainfall history. But scientists who study the West's long-term climate patterns say the state has been parched for much longer stretches before that 163-year historical period began.

And they worry that the "megadroughts" typical of California's earlier history could come again.

Through studies of tree rings, sediment and other natural evidence, researchers have documented multiple droughts in California that lasted 10 or 20 years in a row during the past 1,000 years -- compared to the mere three-year duration of the current dry spell. The two most severe megadroughts make the Dust Bowl of the 1930s look tame: a 240-year-long drought that started in 850 and, 50 years after the conclusion of that one, another that stretched at least 180 years.
California drought: Past dry periods have lasted more than 200 years, scientists say - San Jose Mercury News

This whole area before Man was for the most part a desert region. We diverted water from Mono Lake and the Colorado River to irrigate the region.

They're native to the San Joaquin River Delta, which is the source of the majority of water for California. You can probably see the problem here.

It's settled science YOU DENIER!! ;)

Just quoting the conservative fishwrap LAT.

Perhaps we should be asking for proof that CO2 can do whats claimed of it.
All thats been offered is computer modeling and we've seen how reliable thats been.

Every little variance in the weather and it's global cooling, global warming, climate change. What name change is next?

A quick search shows that the term 'climate justice' is becoming a new buzzword :lamo.

Try reading the article for a change. It links man-made climate change with the drought. I guess everything has to be spelled out for you.

For conservatives, any word longer than 8 letters must be spelled out (assuming rush hasn't already done it for them).

Here is an example of the,"everyone else is stupid", argument that Liberals love to employ.

Indeed. In fact, Obama's EPA has a whole new program they have put into play this year. Interesting how nobody is talking about what they are doing...

Environmental Justice | US EPA

What would be nice is if Progressives would just be honest about the Global Warming, er, Climate Change issue.

It's all about global Social/Economic Justice. They should just be honest about it and let people decide if they want to participate in it.

That's why the solution to Climate Change being demanded by the UN involves the largest transfer of wealth in the history of mankind.

Of course unless you live in one of the places affected. By the way Egypt wasn't/isn't lush because the climate changed but because most of the populated areas are the Nile river delta.

Wow...with that response you shouldn't even be discussing local weather much less global climate change.....

What about Nazca? .

You don't REALLY want me to dig up all the stupid **** Liberals say...do you?

Don't have to, that's what forum search is for. You know the names to use.

Aren't you the Sonic-vanilla-malt-will-get-you-a-DUI guy?
Just asking..;)

Funny that this is a partisan issue when we ALL need the environment to be in good shape.

Everything...shall be sucked into the great void that is the American culture war.

No one is saying the environment shouldn't be taken care of.
