Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill[W:38]

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

I'm surprised they don't complain about the link to Politico.
They can't since it has direct quotes from GOP Senators.
Besides, this is one of Navy Pride's go-to sites .
Only a moron would think women get equal pay. Click the link. It works just fine. Do you actually believe I would pay a cent to access a right wing rag? :lamo:lamo:lamo

Actually I said rice went too far in defending himself.

No you did not. At least not that I saw. You even went so far as to say you would have hit her too. Don't back peddle now.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

I don't care what the GOP said. The fact that democrats are dishonestly interpreting data to push their agenda is the only issue here.

Sigh. Review the comments I have made in this thread. What those articles reported on is the same dishonest trash I'm talking about.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

You don't care what the GOP said? :lamo:lamo
They're the ones filibustering the women of this Nation?
Whatever happened to the GOP mantra from McConnell of a straight-up-and-down vote the last time GOPs were in charge ?

I'm sorry, but I don't care about the GOP and I don't believe in your rhetoric or your ideology. Try something else.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

The Democrats got exactly what they wanted out of this vote. It was a well designed play.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

Assuming your numbers are correct, why not debate this for a Nation instead of filibustering?
As McConnell said last decade when in the Majority, why not give Americans a straight-up-and-down vote?
Do you really think women can "negotiate" a better deal than men given the way women are still treated in this Nation ?
There is a small disparity in pay

Approx 92 cents when comparing job for job, and experience for experience

All of that can be attributed to women not negotiating starting pay like men do

But this law went too far....training them to negotiate is fine

But this law would be an open invitation to lawsuit after lawsuit

That business doesn't need

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

Exactly--GOPs should always filibuster everything before an election.
And then cry as McCain did in the article that we have more important things to worry about--like the war he wishes he were leading.
No--women are that important--give them a straight-up-and-down vote .

This bill is nothing more than a political stunt and everybody knows it. Well, almost everybody.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

Have you noticed all the righties swarming this thread with denials, name-calling and no discussion of GOP quotes in the article ?

this is all you need to know right here and why this so called equal pay argument is nonsense.

It's Time That We End the Equal Pay Myth - Forbes

The wage gap statistic, however, doesn’t compare two similarly situated co-workers of different sexes, working in the same industry, performing the same work, for the same number of hours a day. It merely reflects the median earnings of all men and women classified as full-time workers.

hmm that is odd.
i wonder why that is?

Men working five percent longer than women alone explains about one-quarter of the wage gap.

The second issue with this is that men and women choose different fields to work in. Women give up pay for more comfortable settings.
Men tend to take less desired jobs for more money. they work more hours and work OT something that most women don't do.

Exactly. Not only are they ignoring the factors that go into pay, but the data they are looking at ignores what industries women and men work in and just looking at the median pay in general. It's extremely dishonest nonsense they are peddling here.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

Try ther bolded/underlined portion Jack.
This bill is nothing more than a political stunt and everybody knows it. Well, almost everybody.

Republicans rejected even opening debate on the legislation in April, unanimously voting it down. But the contrast between the GOP and Democrats on the issue was dulled last week when 19 Senate Republicans voted to open debate on the measure, in part to eat up Senate floor time and disrupt planned votes on raising the minimum wage and responding to the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby contraception decision — initiatives that already failed this year.Read more: Senate blocks pay equity bill - Burgess Everett - POLITICO.com

Why would GOPs vote to open debate on the measure to eat up valuable Senate floor time?
Thus to disrupt planned votes on raising the minimum wage?
And to respond to the Supreme court's Hobby Lobby contraception bill?

Why do you support Sen. McConnell in turning the Senate into an impotent chamber like the House ?

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

The bill is a pathetic attempt to snatch up female voters. The sad thing is, many people are grossly uninformed and only go off the title of bills without thinking things through. Also sad, if passed this bill would encourage employers not to hire more women for fear of lawsuits.

The "77% pay gap" is an excellent example of Mark Twain's famous quote about lies, damned lies, in statistics.

In the aggregate, such a pay gap exists. But on a job to job basis, it is much less of a problem, if at all.

Gender pay gap: The familiar line that “women make 77 cents to every man’s dollar” simply isn’t accurate.

No, Women Don

It's Harry Reid's Senate, not Mitch McConnel's and the Senate is no less of an embarrassment than the House is.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

Reid didn't filibuster women, Mitch did.
Why did McConnell scream for straight-up-and-down votes last decade when in power?
Threatening to go nuclear?

With then Majority Leader Sen. Frist campaigning the whole season in then Minority Leader Daschle's state--something never done before.
Something McConnell warned Reid to never do or he would shut down the government if he did .

It's Harry Reid's Senate, not Mitch McConnel's and the Senate is no less of an embarrassment than the House is.

Filibuster women? LOL!! Political parties have become narrative machines and some people just lap it up.

The vast majority of what has been going on in congress for way to long now revolves around and is designed specifically for campaigning.

I'm a woman. I wonder if I'm supposed to feel different after being "filibustered".

I think it probably depends on who is doing the filibustering. For a woman, I would imagine that being filibustered by someone like Brad Pitt would be a much more enjoyable than, say, Micheal Moore.

I think I could enjoy being filibustered by Brad Pitt.

This is a real bummer. I was filibustered by Mitch McConnell and I didn't even know it while it was happening. He's pretty heinous, but it was better losing my filibuster virginity to McConnell and not Reid. That's the stuff of nightmares.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

Besides accusing me of being in a state of panic, do you have any comment on the facts of the article; the quotes from GOPs.
Why do GOP Senators prevent equal pay for equal jobs for women?

Because telling the private sector how it should or should not pay people is not an appropriate role of government. Let's say the bill passes. One of two things will happen. Either women doing the same job as men with the same effectiveness and seniority will get paid the same as men, or businesses will rewrite the job descriptions to show that the jobs are different and pay women differently than men. In other words, no change. The government should spend this time and effort working to reform itself rather than to become even more intrusive and burdensome to personal freedoms.

Re: Senate Blocks Pay Equity Bill

The law tried to change the definition of "establishment" to include separate outfits of the same employer that exist in the same "political subdivision of the state".

I'm surprised they didn't try to amend the definition of "fairness".

do you feel violated?

mistreated?

underpaid?

under appreciated?

if not, you can join my wife on the sidelines of this argument

she thinks most of this is nonsense

but she does think that girls in school should get a class to learn to negotiate better

how to assert themselves better.....

she thinks that would fix most of the issue
