Young American sentenced to six-years hard labour in North Korea

We both know better... but that isn't the point. The USSR and China at least tried to follow socialism... N. Korea? Not even close. They are nothing more than a military dictatorship that operates totalitarianism. The others were dictatorships of socialist systems.

China tried. The USSR basically abandoned all of its socialist ideals when Stalin took over. Turns out the starting point of "single party, military dictatorship, totalitarian ruling style" is pretty harsh soil for socialism to flourish in. It really has to be in an open, democratic society in order to function. Hence why the more democratic industrialized nations are becoming more and more socialist and its flourishing fine and improving their lives. A much better place for socialism than China or the USSR is here. And it's working, too.

When he arrived, he tore up his passport, threw a fit and demanded asylum. That's tourism? No, it's not tourism; it's going off ones meds and catching a flight to North Korea.

The idea that he was a tourist is propaganda. What source called him a tourist?

If I had a visa to visit North Korea I would tear it up as well. But I would do it before going there.

This is what happens when the left takes over and ruins a country.

Right and left are nebulous distinctions. They don't mean much outside your own cultural context. The less a foreign society resembles your's, the less meaningful the term becomes.
