Boy Charged For Desecration Of Jesus Statue

I think the progressives here really don't care about this issue NOT because the kid has First Amendment rights but because they hate Christianity, and that is more disturbing to me than the kid in the picture.

I don't think anyone 'hates Christianity'. Perhaps some people are tired of self-righteous judgemental hypocrites who play the victim card?

For example:

The Bedford county DA Bill Higgins who wants to prosecute the 14 year old boy has apparently been busy using this incident to post "Christianity under attack!!" facebook posts.

"I guess I should take solace in the fact that the liberals are mad at me—again. As for this case, this troubled young man offended the sensibilities and morals of OUR community.… His actions constitute a violation of the law, and he will be prosecuted accordingly. If that tends to upset the 'anti-Christian, ban-school-prayer, war-on-Christmas, oppose-display-of-Ten-Commandments' crowd, I make no apologies."

Meanwhile, the same married District Attorney Bill Higgins has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his office in July.

The way you brand anything and everything you don't like "progressive" has effectively rendered that word meaningless.

I'm a catholic and I find it disgusting, however the kid should not be charged.. The First Amendment applies here. Now if the kid damaged the idol then of course he should be charged with a crime..

If you're able to arrive at the conclusion that it's ridiculous for him to go to jail due to first amendment issues, or that it's grossly disproportionate to the offense, so is anybody else.

why do you think that?

Very talibornagain thinking there.

But, I bet you wouldn't mind if he did it to something islamic, or a buddah, etc..

I find it disgusting that this is a misdemeanor. It ought to be punished by imprisonment.

I do not approve of public sexual conduct of any kind.

Desire is reasonable. We can all desire things to be different. Wanting the government to handle this type of issue in such a severe way is a dangerous precedent.

How did civilization manage to survive for thousands of years with such "dangerous" precedents?

Which is not against the law, nor should it be.

This act was against the law, but don't let reality get in the way of a leftist rant.

You are proposing that tax dollars be used for such a thing, my liberal friend.

And now it's resorting to mindless insults.

Ah so then it would be logical for my sisters to punish you for violating their Wiccan religious views.

That would logically follow from the statement "Wicca is true". (but the premise is false, of course)

Unless you were being sarcastic I understand what you mean. What you mean is allah akbar throw the infidel in prison for insulting my religion allah akbar.

Why are you incoherent?

That's rather contrary to the traditional relation of Church and state, is it not?

No one has the right to tell me what contradicts the Bill of Rights or Constitution considering I'm one of the few that actually cares about those documents and don't use them to push political issues by taking said documents out of context..

What are you talking about? The Establishment and Free Exercise clauses are both essentially contrary to the traditional relation of the Church to the state.

Forget the establishment....

The First Amendment doesn't justify Christianity as a national religion...

That young man did something wrong, but it wasn't illegal.

hey paleocon since people saying something happened apparently doesn't make it necicerily true that the something in question happened why is it logical to treat your religion as correct again?

You seem to be having trouble understanding what I am saying. What was the traditional relation of Church and state (think Pre-Revolution and Pre-Reformation).

Why are you incoherent?
How am I being incoherent? You clearly stated in the OP that you want the individual in the story to go to prison for hate speech or offending religious views.

This all happens because our nation loses all its moral foundations and completely degrade. Youth has nothing sacred. Where are we going to? Why is this happening?

You say that like it's a bad thing. "Sacred" is an idiotic concept, nothing ought to be sacred. Everyone and everything ought to have to earn respect, it should never simply be granted. Christianity has earned no respect, it's just another crazy delusion in a world of crazy delusions.

He committed a heinous act of blasphemy.

Well Jesus statutory raped his own mother to impregnate her with himself. So he was an incestuous rapist, I think he would be willing to overlook a bit of simulated dry humping on a statue!!

What a silly question to ask. A civilization surviving doesn't say much about the social conditions. The Mayans survived 4000 years and well into the colonial period and yet it was one of the most violent civilizations out there. As far as Europeans go "Civilization" didn't survive, various groups rose and fell accordingly. Greek civilization fell, Egyptian civilization did too, the Assyrians, the Babylonians etc. they all fell. Hell, even Hebrew civilization practically disappeared for the first 200 years of the Crusades. There simply isn't one civilization, there have been many that have fallen by being conquered, been destroyed by politics or simply ceased to exist for ecological reasons.

And do you know what has been held in common by all that have survived for longer than a few hundred years?

The statement "allah akbar" appeared repeatedly in your post, despite it being grammatically incoherent with respect to the other words.

Alla akbar describes your fanatical support for laws that punish people for offending your religious views. I am surprised that you are not calling for that guy to be stoned or have his hand cut off.

...Where are we going to? Why is this happening?

People are starting to realize that it is time to use reason and evidence to make decisions instead of relying on the dictates of imaginary playmates channeled by a few people a couple thousand years ago.

"Allah Akbar" menas "God is great". Perhaps you should become better acquainted with the dictionary before you continue making a fool of yourself.
