Over the years God has been reviled in many ways and in many ways far worse than this. I believe that the blasphemy is His job to deal with. When we deign to exact His justice we are acting from vanity, not love.

The charges are crap. Now if you want to charge him with lude and lascivious behavior that's another matter.
I have CDO, it's like OCD but the letters are in alphabetical order like they should be.

Which is my point. I think the guy is a scumbag, but he has the First Amendment Right to be a scumbag, as long as he doesn't damage anything, or expose himself in public.

I have a seriously problem with what is reported in the OP article as a real law that punishes for a religious transgression, that is not a public harm.
Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, don't blame someone else, or expect others to make a change, you should stop complaining and make a different choice. Remember, the circumstances of your birth don't determine the outcome of your life.

Many of our laws, such as anti-nudity, flag desecration laws and broadcast indecency laws, are unofficially based on a right to not be offended. Improper (in my opinion), but arguably legal, application of work place harassment laws also can also protect a right to avoid offense. In my view, there is no right to avoid being offended* and it was a good choice, and intentional, that the USA's constitution does not recognize such a right. Being offended is a choice.

*Harassment is different and should be a crime when it is extreme (in my opinion).

I've never even heard of something like that. It must be local.

I would support charging him on grounds of pubic indecency. "Desecration," however, is over the top.

This is stupid as hell. From what it looks like he did not in any way physically vandalize the statue was posing a picture with it. Was the picture offensive to some? Obviously, but he should not be imprisoned or even fined. This is a complete waste of ****ing time.

You really want to take that line of reasoning?

I suppose the people who put up the statue didn't think about how people are regressing back to being 3 hairs shy of a baboon...

I suppose it may be, since I don't think we have anything close to that around here. If the guy wants to take it to a higher court, I feel confident that the law would be thrown out.
