Ray Rice's Wife, Janay, Defends Him and Rips Media In Statment

Seriously people there is no evidence of any other time when he hit his wife. Just assuming it is repeat behavior and then treating him as a repeat offender is poor form. Oh and people, they did get help.

For a knockout punch like that one there does not have to be evidence that he has hit his wife more than once. One time is quite enough thank you. With a temper like that he could have just as well killed her with that punch.

Sorry, but he is getting everything he deserves right now.

And then there are the mind readers and the soothsayers.

You know what, I have sympathy for the spouses and families of lots of people who commit crimes - doesn't mean I'm going to let the criminal off out of some misguided belief that crimes shouldn't be punished because close loved ones suffer too.

And the woman gets no say.

No, in a case of domestic abuse the victim does not have a say IMHO. Because otherwise dirt bags get away with their wife beating because the victim is either too scared to send him to jail or is so beaten down by the man that she actually thinks he is not the problem but she is.

Ray Rice should have kept his hands to himself. Every problem he now faces are totally of his own making.

Janay Rice defends husband Ray Rice, rips media - Chicago Tribune

I wonder if anyone in the news media and all those sanctimoneous busybodies who think of themselves as protectors of women talked with Janay about it before destroying her husband's career.

Naw. They wouldn't have cared.

Actions have consequences. Just because she's moved past what he did to her, forgave him and married him, doesn't mean his employers still want to be associated with him. Domestic violence is a very serious issue. I do agree that the media milked this for all it's worth, though.

They didn't destroy Ray Rice's career. Ray Rice destroyed his career. And the fact that a battered woman defends her assaulter is hardly earth shaking news.

"Ginned up the whole thing"? What in the hell?

Apparently the same troop of actors that faked the moon landing also faked the elevator punch.:lamo

.

I doubt that. One punch kills aren't really that feasible.

Here is the moral of the story:

If you don't want everyone you know to think you are a piece of ****, then don't beat your wife or girlfriend. If you are famous and you don't want the whole country to think you are a piece of **** (excluding Lowdown for some reason), then don't beat your wife or girlfriend.

Neat copout. The screaming from people about Rice's initial punishment not being enough had nothing to do with it, I guess.

Soul of compassion here.

No, the media just ginned up the whole thing until the league had no choice but to get rid of him.

See above.

That would be your choice.

As the news media and others were ginning this up with their outrage they might have paused to consider that they were not just hurting Rice but his whole family. Idiots and their stupid moral panic.

What's the penalty for the crime of knocking out a woman (or any other adult)? It's not a felony. First offence with no criminal history would be a fine of < $1000 in most states.

And so Rice must lose his career? Seems excessive.

And the woman gets no say.

We've heard from a number of people who are very sure they know better how to live Jenet's life than she does.

And then there are the mind readers and the soothsayers.

Talk about a cop out...Ray Rice is not responsible for his behavior because his battered wife still loves him???? Really.

Ray Rice didn't lose his job because the media did anything but expose his actions. Ray Rice lost his job because it is apparent he cannot control himself. I am not celebrity and I would also lose my job if I was charged with and pleaded to domestic violence, or any other range of criminal behavior because my company does not want to employ people like that. Ray Rice has no one to blame but himself. Janay Rice has no one to blame but her husband. To put anything more to it is just asinine.

As far as deciding on whether or not Ray Rice is a repeat offender or not does not even come into play for me. He has proven himself to be person willing to victimize those weaker than himself. He has proven that he cannot control himself or his temper. We, as a society, have decided that people who victimize the weak and cannot control their anger must be dealt with lest we live in society more cruel and more violent than we already do.

You suggest that this is the media's fault. The media did not punch Janay and knock her out. The media didn't get even more upset with her because she had the temerity to be knocked out from that one punch. The media did not drag her out of the elevator like she was sack of potatoes. Ray Rice did those things. Now he has to suffer the consequences of those actions. I don't feel sorry for Janay either. She chose her bed and she has to now lie in it. If she didn't want her husband to lose her job for knocking her out she shouldn't have married him then. Janay can live her life as she wants. If she chooses to forgive her husband that is her choice. Society has another choice to make and so far we have made it.

You don't know when to quit do you?

He was punished for what he did even if he didn't go to prison. I'm not trivializing anything, but saying that treating him as a repeat offender when there is no evidence of any other incident is wrong. Treat repeat offenders as repeat offenders, not people that to the best of your knowledge only did it once.

Dude, he knocked her unconscious and dumped her body. He dumped her like a sack of garbage.

How many times does one have to do that to prove he's dangerous?

Well I think if she would have died, it would have been because of the way her head hit the side of the elevator.

Well thats not Ray Rice's fault either. He didn't design or engineer that space.

... Wait... you mean the assault caught on video wouldn't have destroyed his career? Lmao.

Yeah, I thought so. Her opinion doesn't count.

It really doesn't. The NFL, and the Baltimore Ravens, have a right to hire and fire whomever they want. Ray Rice is not entitled to a job with the league.

The NFL has a code of conduct it expects its players to abide by. Ray Rice broke that code of conduct. His behavior is bad for the image of the National Football League, and therefore they have every right to suspend him from playing in their league as long as they like.

Domestic violence should never be condoned, implicitly nor explicitly, especially in an arena in which impressionable young people are watching and taking cues.

Professional football is entertainment, not much different from watching a movie. The NFL as an organization hires players as entertainers. Since a large portion of the entertained audience consists of children and young men, I wholeheartedly agree with the NFL's suspension policy and their enforcement of it.... irrespective of Ray Rice's or his wife's wishes.

He can always play arena football or in the Canadian league, if they'll have him.

The only person responsible for destroying Ray Rice's career is Ray Rice. He knew the rules of conduct to be part of the NFL when he signed his contract.

You're not actually suggesting that the elevator would have been at fault? :lamo

... Wait... you mean the assault caught on video wouldn't have destroyed his career? Lmao.

This is some kind of comedy gold right here.

I don't disagree with you here. But...

I do have to say that I do think the media has taken this too far. One merely has to note that she did indeed marry the man that assaulted her. According to a few news sources that I have read, they did go to counselling and have ironed out their problems. While we do not know if they're being truthful, we have to take them at their word. Hopefully Rice has repented, and will never ever lay a hand on another woman ever again. So I personally do believe he should get another chance. Heck if she can forgive him, why can everyone else?

Because a large portion of the NFL's audience is young, impressionable kids. If the NFL lets this guy off with a slap on the wrist, what message does that send to, especially, impressionable young african american males?

This is the problem. Especially when taken in context with the recent string of "knockout game" assaults and the glorification of violence among our nation's youths, the NFL, as an entertainment provider to young people, needs to send the clear message that the kind of violent behavior seen in this video is NOT acceptable.

Then perhaps dissemination of the video was an equally culpable misdeed.

My comment wasn't about him being dangerous or not, but about people treating him like a repeat offender.

I don't think so. What's in the video actually occurred, and there is no sense, in my opinion, in censoring the truth. It's how we, or the NFL in this case, respond to the behavior shown in the video that sends the clearest message regarding what is or isn't acceptable.

I would argue that the message had already been sent, and the only outcome of the feeding frenzy by media hyenas has been to assault Mrs. Rice again. This was prurience, not public service.
