So just assume the worst about people?

I went to a school that sent a number of kids to the NFL. The vast majority are good kids who work their tails off ecmvery day to pursue their dream. Just because there are a few rotten apples doesn't mean that the whole bunch is bad.

However, as a society, we can move forward and do the best we can to make things better. For instance, dd your mom and her boyfriend seek couple counselling? In the case of Ray and his wife, they did and -- according to them -- found reconciliation and inner peace. Did he ever admit guilt? In the case of Ray Rice, he did and seemed sorry for what he did. So why don't you think he deserves another chance? I get it... chances are, he'll do it again. But there's also a chance he will not. His wife has forgiven him and moved on, and at this point, I think we all should as well.*

*Though I do think he deserves some punishment for what he did. 2 games seems light, and the NFL admitted they missed the boat. Also, the Ravens are well within their right to release him.
Almost every man that hits his wife or girlfriend expresses remorse afterwards. Whether him and his wife went to counseling is their business. Whether she stays with him or not is their business. Whether his wife forgives him or not is their business. However, if we are going to suspend or throw guys out of the NFL for smoking a joint, then surely beating your wife or girlfriend deserves a similar penalty. I am 38 years old and have managed to go my whole life so far without ever hitting a woman. I would suspect that most guys could say the same. So not beating your wife or girlfriend is a pretty minimal standard if you ask me.

Is it possible you could misconstrue my argument anymore? At the moment we know of one time Ray Rice hit his wife. That is it. We know of no other instances of him ever being abusive to his wife or for that matter any other woman he has ever been with. To treat Ray Rice as some sort of serial wife beater when there is ZERO evidence of that being the case is wrong. You don't treat a man that killed one person as a serial killer because there is no evidence of that being the case, so why are people treating Ray Rice as someone that beats his wife all the time when there is no proof of that?

It happens, not often, but it happens. A few years ago a man walked up behind another man at a nearby Walmart and hit him in the back of the head one time. He died.

I can't find the part of the law that says violence against women is okay if the woman in question forgives him. And who cares what the media says? The guy committed a crime. Then, after she is knocked out, he doesn't seem to care in the least. He could have carried her out, but no, he just kind of drags her a bit. No remorse whatsoever, no shock at what he just did.

Then, the NFL tries to cover for him with a pitiful 2 game suspension. They for sure knew that there was video evidence of what he did, but they didn't want to see it. They investigate everything, this is something they do very well. Getting this tape was a phone call away. They did nothing. They look like crap here too. At this point, they had to get rid of him or the S-storm would be coming down on them.

What's with all the "they" business in this thread? HE is the one who needs professional help not "they."

I would not have him working for me because if he has no problem knocking out the person closest to him, he will do that with anybody else.

If I employ him knowing that I am liable for what he does on my property.

    He had to go.

    1) She said 'the vast majority' not 'all'.

    and 2) No offense, but your statement was ridiculous;

'The vast, vast majority of NFL players are decent, hard working human beings who would never hit their wives/girlfriends'.

How on Earth do you know the 'vast, vast majority of NFL players'...'would never hit their wives/girlfriends'?

So, you can tell a person that you have never even met will NEVER hit their wife/girlfriend?

    Come on now.

And just EXACTLY how can you know this about people you have never met?

Why don't you start a company for women...everytime they go on a first date with a guy, they can call and (for a fee) you will tell them if the guy will EVER hit her?

    You'll make billions.

Way to entirely miss the point. I was responding to a post that called the nfl the national felons league, claiming that ray rice's behavior should be overlooked.

Yes, the vast, vast majority of NFL players are not felons, and we do know that for a fact. We also know they're hard working due to the nature of their work.

All of that aside, people deserve the benefit of the doubt. Innocent till proven guilty, if you will. Unless you have some evidence to suggest all these vast quantities of NFL players are rubbing around hitting women, the presumption ought to be that they don't.

I don't know for a fact that you don't hit women. You might. But until some evidence surfaces that you're an abusive person, I'm gonna go ahead and assume you aren't. That's how it works.
