Well what do you think about this? The Europeans want to create a Rapid Response Force. Do they even have the ability to be competent in this endeavor? Other than the Brits. I do notice how France always manages to get out of putting up any money or manpower. What say ye?

Seven NATO allies plan to create a new rapid reaction force of at least 10,000 soldiers as part of plans to boost NATO defenses in response to Russia's intervention in Ukraine, the Financial Times reported on Friday.

The aim is to create a division-sized joint expeditionary force for rapid deployment and regular exercises. The British-led force would include air and naval units as well as ground troops, the newspaper said. Countries involved include Denmark, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Norway and the Netherlands. Canada has also expressed an interest in taking part, it said.....snip~

I'll believe it when I see it. As for France, since they aren't a member of NATO, nobody would expect them to do anything. Which they are very good at.

Heya Wiggen. :2wave: 10k to make up a division.....and they would only use this Force for Europe? I heard Cameron said he had a plan.

I don't have a problem with this really. Let the Europeans handle whatever problems that are theirs to handle. Then we don't need to always be deploying ours.

Sure they can, some European armies are better equiped than others but working together they should be able to do this quite well.

The Eastern European allies are modernizing their forces to the NATO standard, that Shouldn't take much longer So they should be able to fit their forces in when they are done.

The focus would be logistics and command and there would be some work in training because the western members fight differently than the Eastern but that should be interesting for both.

I think the small very well trained mobile high tech armies of smaller European countries are just the right ones for these sorts of jobs.
