Ukraine Crisis: Vladimir Putin Warns West: 'Don't Mess' With Nuclear-Armed Russia

From International Business Times:

“I want to remind you that Russia is one of the most powerful nuclear nations. This is a reality, not just words. We are strengthening our nuclear deterrence forces and our armed forces." ~ “We must always be ready to repel any aggression against Russia and our partners should always be aware that no matter in which condition their governments may be or which foreign policy concepts they may pursue, it is better not to come against Russia as regards a possible armed conflict”

Sure, rhetoric for internal propaganda, issued to a bunch of young Russians. Still, a significant escalation in rhetoric, I'd say.

Maybe, this tougher language is coming in reaction to this, which I think is a boneheaded move, and hope that NATO won't accept the bid (same source):

Ukraine Will Seek NATO Membership, Says Prime Minister Yatsenyuk

Ukraine will seek NATO membership, Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said Friday following fresh accusations from NATO and the United Nations that Russia is actively participating in the violence in eastern Ukraine. Yatsenyuk said he will ask Ukrainian lawmakers to change the nation's nonaligned status laid out in its constitution and introduce a NATO bill that would also stop Ukraine from joining any military agreements contrary to NATO, such as the Eurasian Economic Community, a Russian-led trade bloc between former Soviet states.

Opinions?
