The dog was a suspect, uh, okay."A Wyoming police officer has pleaded not guilty to an animal-cruelty charge that alleges a police dog died after he left it in a hot patrol car for several hours."
Now wait a minute. I thought that if a suspect kills a police dog they get charged with the murder of a police officer.
Why was this officer only charged with animal cruelty? He killed a fellow police officer.
The dog was a suspect, uh, okay.
I don't think ass sniffing is a crime.
It's evidently a misdemeanor to lock an animal (dog) inside of a hot car for six hours (animal cruelty)
Did you purposely miss my point?
A police dog is considered an officer of the law.
If a suspect had killed the dog he would have been charged with murder.
Why was the officer only charged with animal cruelty.
Double standard.
Okay, I did miss the point. A police dog is a cop too, if anybody kills one intentionally, it's a murder/homicide rap.
got it.
They're probably trying to show more compassion for the person cop than he did for his four legged partner.
Do drug sniffing dogs sniff rear ends too?
"...According to an investigator's statement filed in Natrona County Circuit Court, Mills police officer Zachary Miller left the dog, a 10-year-old female black lab named Nyx, in his patrol car for over six hours July 9.....
The car was running, but the air conditioning was off and outside temperatures reached 86 degrees........"
In hot New Mexico, we left our dog in the van, engine running, air conditioner running, he was kept cool.So apparently the dog was left in the patrol car with the engine running for six hours? Seems there is more neglect here than meets the eye.

Don't know why someone would leave the engine running and not run the A/C to keep the dog cool. Maybe he thought he had the air on, who knows?
This person was training other people too, so weird.
A/C or not, leaving a car running unattended for six hours is absurd.
What about cats? If dogs can become police officers then cats should be allowed too, otherwise its discriminatory.

Engine running? Probably wasn't left in a "hot car".
The car was running, but the air conditioning was off and outside temperatures reached 86 degrees, KCWY News 13 reported.
COEUR D’ALENE, ID — An officer shot and killed a dog that was waiting for its owner inside of a parked van. The officer later claimed it ‘lunged’ at him, but it was also revealed that he had his gun drawn the entire time.
The dog’s owner was Craig Jones, who was sitting inside a nearby restaurant eating breakfast at the time of the shooting. His black Labrador, ‘Arfie,’ was waiting inside his van, with a window half-opened for ventilation.
A Coeur D’Alene police officer approached the vehicle, apparently because someone called police to report it being a ‘suspicious’ white van that bore similarities to one related to a child-luring case. The unnamed officer went in with his gun already drawn, KREM 2 News reported.
Arfie sat in the van, anticipating his owner’s return. The officer claims that Arfie then “lunged” at him, and he shot the dog in the chest. Arfie died.
A photograph of the scene showed that the bullet had actually traveled through glass to reach the dog.
The officer recorded his actions as necessary to protect himself from a “vicious pit bull,” when the truth was that he killed a black Lab sitting in a parked car. Mr. Jones said the shooting was unbelievable and his dog did not have a mean bone in his body.
From the article
That is nonsense. I hope they tested the officer for drugs.
He then has the audacity to plead not guilty. How about grow a pair and accept some responsibility.
I am usually pro police but the number of bad apples is getting ridiculous. Out here in the Northwest in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho we had a similar moron in police clothing kill an innocent 1 1/2 yr old puppy.

All dogs sniff rear ends. It is instinct.
How hot would the interior of the car have been?
I don't know how many degrees. But if I left you in a car with windows rolled up on day with temps at 86 degree and your hands were immobilized from being able to open the door how long would it be before you lost your cheery disposition?

The only good that will come out of this will be new rules and regs. It's all we can hope for--a positive change. Meanwhile, the officer and his family will be crying over their police dog's grave every evening after supper .
More rules and regulations? C'mon, it's just a dog!
