A police officer just 15 miles away from the ongoing protests in Ferguson, Mo. allegedly said that he thinks the protestors should have been "put down like rabid dogs."

I could say a lot of things, but I'm just going to say that I don't agree with those remarks whether the officer made them or not.

Everyone in the USA has the 1st Amendment right to express their opinion.

And they shouldn't have to lose their life doing it.

Mmmmmm, police state. And then the police wonder why they have such bad relations with American citizens.

Looting, rioting and attempted murder aren't protected acts.

Murdering citizens for expressing their opinions will get cops locked up.

or at least they should get cops locked up

it amazes me how little value many put on another's life...meh...they acted stupid, put them down...

I certainly made some stupid choices in my youth...luckily for me, I was around solid people who didn't think the solution to stupidity should be a death sentence.

Stop using the bad doings of bad guys to excuse the bad doings of "good" cops. Its getting old as hell.

I believe that a lot of us made some stupid choices in our youth, fortunately, as you said, most people didn't and still don't think that the solution to stupidity should be a death sentence. Unfortunately, from what we read on the internet a few people have other ideas.

Holding the majority of a group responsible for the actions of a violent, ignorant minority seems to be the status quo. Blame the peaceful protestors for the violent acts of a few morons or blame all police officers for the acts of a few morons. Funny how either side can justify violating someones rights by saying the other side does it too....

I put very little value on my life. I love life. Even the suckiest days are awesome but someday everyone has to die. Nobody ever got out of this alive and I am not afraid of dying. I agree though. It isn't our place to put value on other people's life. I am like you and have done some pretty stupid things when I was younger and I was lucky to get away with it. I think if people are too stupid to live they will do away with themselves without any help from anyone else.

Yes, supposedly one cop gets presumably drunk and says something stupid and thus we live in a police state.

I agree with this - I also don't think that a police officer should be killed while doing their job, but we all know that sometimes happens and sometimes it's because they gave the guy acting stupidly the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, from what we read on the internet a few people couldn't care less.

Any cop who doesn't do his job the way that it should be done needs to pay a price for that failure to perform.

If you can't do the job, find something else to do.

Pretty frickin' simple actually.

Some people were just never born to be cops.

The only murder here is the one committed by the police department.

Yes it will. But out of 1401 police officers in St. Louis, ONE makes some stupid comments on social media and it gets covered in the press. Where's the stories of the hundreds of officers that give to the community through hours of volunteer work sponsoring charities and programs for troubled youth? Geesh how about a little perspective.

Re: St.Louis Area Cop Thinks Protestors Should Be 'Put Down Like Rabid Dogs'

There are people of all races and careers who say stupid things. Not sure why this one deserves a thread.

Re: St.Louis Area Cop Thinks Protestors Should Be 'Put Down Like Rabid Dogs'

. Not sure why this one deserves a thread.

Because it has been calculated to help further an agenda.

Re: St.Louis Area Cop Thinks Protestors Should Be 'Put Down Like Rabid Dogs'

Mmmmmm, police state. And then the police wonder why they have such bad relations with American citizens.

I would say that the vast majority of Americans don't see having "bad relations" with local law enforcement.

This is going to back fire on the Democrat Party. With the "Politico" reporting that Al Sharpton is now part of the Obama White House and Al Sharpton is going to lead an anti cop rally in NYC today, the Democrats are going back to the 70's where liberals were viewed as being soft on crime, anti cop and pro criminal.

We are anti-cop-criminal. You know, the kind who shoot unarmed people down in the streets.

Both your statements may be true - however stupid people in this case, a stupid cop making a stupid comment furthers that agenda and puts a spotlight on it. A cop who has this opinion has no business being a cop. Yes, those breaking the law, looting, throwing molotov's, shooting at police should be arrested and the book thrown at them to the fullest extent of the law. They do NOT deserve to be put down like rabid dogs because they are not rabid dogs.

We put way too much emphasis on emotive responses to real life which gets everyone in more trouble and simply incites yet more emotive responses, leaving a vicious circle of violence that leads to nothing positive and no way to heal and move on. "Stupid is as stupid does" really does apply here.

I agree with what you say.

But since these are not mutually exclusive dichotomies here, this does not mean an agenda is not involved.

Part of the job of being a police officer is sometimes having to use deadly force to take down a suspect, however, some people seem to think there's never a reason or justification for doing so. Some people consider Mike Brown to be a "gentle giant", an innocent 18 yr old "boy", while others can see a 6'4", 300lb man and envision how he could be deadly dangerous.

You're wrong, however - it's not always that frickin' simple.

Well, of course it does. The press isn't there to solve a problem. They usually create more problems than they solve. They love a good fire. What is that song, Dirty Laundry?
