Pentagon: No evidence of ISIS at border

Without first hand observation, the Pentagon cannot say definitively that the evidence doesn't exist.

Same goes for saying they are there. It works both ways.

They will crumble in months up to a year with their psychopath leader killed or captured. Mark my words. They are no match for our firepower and if Iraq finally gets it sheet together. The good part is we will get rid of a good number of terrorist sympathizers once and for all as they are now out in the open and not hiding in our country or other countries.

Well, we could hope your optimism has standing. The Taliban is still alive and well, al Qaeda is still alive and well, MB, al Nusra and a half dozen others, as a matter of FACT militant Islamic groups are stronger today then they've been in a long time, maybe ever! All thanks in part, or more, to the power vacuums the US has created.

Opinion, opinion, opinion.

Your point? I don't recall us being eager to interfere and Obama even got flack for not getting involved. In fact I remember we were reluctant due to the fact that very few of the players were on our side even though they were against Assad.

Come on dude. First of all, of the seven countries that Wesley Clark revealed were on a pentagon list for regime change, three have been completed and the fourth is being worked on. Obama most certainly DID try all he could to use our military in Syria to topple president Assad. Three times he dispatched Hillary Clinton to the UN to secure a resolution for the use of force in Syria, and all three times Russia and China said NO! And sighted the abuse of an earlier resolution for Libya as the reason. The UK parliament decided against supporting the US using military force in Syria, Obama couldn't get congressional approval, and 70% of Americans said NO! So unless you think Obama should have been belligerent and ordered the Pentagon to go forward anyway, there was nothing he could do. So then as presidents are want to do when congress tells them no, he implemented a covert operation with CIA training facilities in Jordan and Turkey. And, pilfering arms from Gaddafi's army began smuggling them to president Assad's opposition out of the Benghazi annex thru Turkey, Turkey who was responsible for vetting to ensure that only the "good" guys in Syria received support, dropped the ball. Now then IS has been emboldened, and as warned by Russia and China, the crisis in Syria has spread out from Syria. Now, we have another problem of our own making on our hands.

Not just too feeble but up until now unwilling to protect the Sunnis and Kurds at their own peril once ISIS comes knocking on Baghdad's door. I sure hope we can fix stupid.

The US created "stupid" so no, we won't be about fixing it.

I wasn't totally dismissing them just saying they are overrated.

It seems we agree then, for the most part. Whether I see them as over or underrated depends largely on who I'm having the conversation with, or where the "reporting" is coming from.

Re: head asplode for some of you

You're adrift.
The DoD was saying that they didn't have evidence of it happening, not that evidence does not exist.
The two statements are not identical nor interchangeable.

"We have no evidence" ≠ "There is no evidence"

You can see the distinction between the two statements when they are laid out side by side, yes?

Here's some hedasplode for some of you:

So choose either "side" you like. But they're both saying that we have no evidence to support the idea that ISIS is coming across our southern border.

The OP says, "No Evidence Exists".

where?

The Defense Department on Friday pushed back against Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s (R) claim that fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) might have entered the United States across its southern border.Perry, who is weighing another run for the president in 2016, made the assertion Thursday during a speech at the conservative Heritage Foundation.
"There's the obvious great concern that, because of the condition of the border from the standpoint of it not being secure, and us not knowing who is penetrating across, that individuals from ISIS or other terrorist states could be [crossing]," he said. "There's a very real possibility that they may have already used that [strategy]."
But the Pentagon’s top spokesman, Rear Adm. John Kirby, shot down that allegation.

“I've seen no indication that they are coming across the border with Mexico. We have no information that leads us to believe that,” he said on CNN’s "New Day."
Kirby said Pentagon leaders know the terrorist group does have “aspirations to hit western targets” and that the threat is something “we’ve got to take seriously, and we have to be ready for it.”

Re: head asplode for some of you

Drudge linked to NRO, which states that according to Judicial Watch, an attack at the border is imminent. From Judicial Watch:

Islamic terrorist groups are operating in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez and planning to attack the United States with car bombs or other vehicle born improvised explosive devices (VBIED). High-level federal law enforcement, intelligence and other sources have confirmed to Judicial Watch that a warning bulletin for an imminent terrorist attack on the border has been issued. Agents across a number of Homeland Security, Justice and Defense agencies have all been placed on alert and instructed to aggressively work all possible leads and sources concerning this imminent terrorist threat.

Specifically, Judicial Watch sources reveal that the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) is confirmed to now be operating in Juarez, a famously crime-infested narcotics hotbed situated across from El Paso, Texas. Violent crimes are so rampant in Juarez that the U.S. State Department has issued a number of travel warnings for anyone planning to go there. The last one was issued just a few days ago.

Intelligence officials have picked up radio talk and chatter indicating that the terrorist groups are going to “carry out an attack on the border,” according to one JW source. “It’s coming very soon,” according to this high-level source, who clearly identified the groups planning the plots as “ISIS and Al Qaeda.” An attack is so imminent that the commanding general at Ft. Bliss, the U.S. Army post in El Paso, is being briefed, another source confirms. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not respond to multiple inquiries from Judicial Watch, both telephonic and in writing, about this information. Wow! That's pretty serious, pretty specific, and names the attackers, and the city they will attack from!?!? Who is judicial watch, and are those statements verifiable anywhere else?

Re: head asplode for some of you

Holy ****! Promotes accountability and integrity in government, where were they during the Bush administration?

From Wiki: "...in July 2003 Judicial Watch joined the environmental organization Sierra Club in suing the George W. Bush administration for access to minutes of Vice President Dick Cheney's Energy Task Force." Presidency of George W. Bush - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This thread isn't about the Bush Administration. Count me as among Americans who are very concerned about the border situation and members of this board who would appreciate keeping the focus on the thread topic, which is whether ISIS is at the southern border.

Re: head asplode for some of you

Both Breitbart and Fox News are claiming "exclusives" on a leaked Texas Dept. of Public Safety document.

Re: head asplode for some of you

Well, looks like all of the folks laughing at Perry have flown the coop.

I'm shocked.

Re: head asplode for some of you

I just hope more information is forthcoming. People have been talking for years now about terrorists slipping across the Mexican border, so if ISIS has a presence in Juarez (or elsewhere), I wouldn't be very surprised. Only yesterday PM Cameron talked to his nation about an increased threat level.

I agree with John Hayward here: "To be sure, “increased chatter” is a perennial feature of the September 11 season...."

But he goes on to say in this piece from Human Events:

But this report from Judicial Watch sounds like a good deal more than generalized misgivings. A low-tech bombing attack on the border crossing, during a busy hour, could inflict a lot of carnage on both Mexican and American citizens. Or maybe Ft. Bliss itself is the potential target, or a softer target in El Paso. It’s always tricky to guess what response terrorists are anticipating, but one would think the savvier sort of monster would understand that a big cross-border attack might actually wake up the somnolent American Ruling Class, or at least shame them into doing something about border security, so it’s not an opportunity to be burned off lightly.

Breitbart News has posted a leaked document from the Texas Department of Public Safety warning about increased interest from ISIS in the southern border. This document asserts that the recent stunt pulled off by James O’Keefe of Project Veritas, in which he paraded back and forth across the border dressed as Osama bin Laden without any notice taken by the authorities, heightened the interest of actual terrorists in exploiting our security vulnerability. (Which is not O’Keefe’s fault, since anyone not working or shilling for the Obama Administration already knew about that vulnerability. ISIS doesn’t have an immigration agenda that relies on pretending the border is much safer than it actually is, so of course they got the message before anyone in the Administration.) Re: head asplode for some of you

If one isn't looking, the assertion that "I see nothing" , while true, is meaningless. We'll know soon enough if ISIS or others intent on murder are here. Thank you, Sergeant Schultz, and the Pentagon.

Re: head asplode for some of you

Yes, we will see soon enough. If Texas is attacked, I wonder if Texans will wait for the feds to take action. I don't think they will.

I wouldn't wait while the feds consider a strategy, and I wouldn't be concerned about Mexican sovereignty, either. If we are not to be concerned about Syrian sovereignty, why would we be concerned about Mexican sovereignty?

Because Mexico's closer to home, I hope? Meanwhile, the Nero strategy may cost American lives.

If the Mexican government truly wanted to clean up their side of the border, we might help. There's no way to be certain with this administration, though. If Mexico decides it has no interest in cleaning it up, we should do it ourselves. I have no love for the Mexican government. They have no problem picking up an American who accidentally drifts into their territory with a couple of guns, but can't seem to get interested in shutting down the cartels or other groups who are armed to the teeth - probably because certain members of their government benefit from the status quo. They've done little to inspire respect.
