Real-Life 'Purge' Expected In Louisville, Kentucky

Considering that most of the really bad riots hat to be countered by calling in the NG?

People need to stop trying to turn a bunch of thugs that are rioting and looking into some sort of saints. All you are doing is ignoring the ones that aren't acting like petulant two year old.

What exactly do you have a problem with in that picture? The fact their wearing body armor? The armored truck that stores their gear? This stuff is standard issue for SWAT teams... got a problem with them?

I have a problem with local law enforcement being as armed (perhaps more?) as military soldiers, yes. Freedom can not exist under an over-bearing, unaccountable, militarized pack of goons with no respect for their constituents.

Now you're just being over-dramatic. It wasn't until the rioting started that you even knew Ferguson had an armored truck. Would you prefer rioters breaking into your business and taking whatever they wanted? I didn't think so.

Also, you would agree though that there is a need for unit that has the equipment and training to deal with situations like hostage situations, spree shootings and the like? I've said it multiple times on here, and if you responded at some point then I apologize for it being redundant, but do you remember what happened with the Bank of America Shootout?

Edit: Oh, and there not as armed as the military. There not using offensive grenades (frag, incendiary etc) there not using heavy machine guns, there not using tank cannons... so just stop that.

Right. Because the presence of these military style police has definitely calmed things down.

In hostage situations you need tactic, not brute force.

Many millitary chapters don't have those things. You're thinking of infantry, not general ground troops. The point is that modern cops more resemble soldiers than civillian peace officers. They were supposed to be just like us.

It has/will in terms of the rioting. It's not meant to "calm" the racial tension that exists at the time. That's for the courts to do.

If you're facing this guy:

You're going to need more than this:

What? What's a military chapter? In any case, we still have those other cops, and I agree with Powerbob that the uniformed cops should probably be out and and about on food more often to smooth things over. But when things get out of control, we need to make sure the police are protected, so they can protect us yes?

i went up there a couple weeks ago and had a wonderful time, actually.

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least 14 people were killed and 58 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the long holiday weekend, from Thursday evening through early Monday morning.
There were also six police-involved shootings, two of them involving teens who were killed

Good movie and Devil's Night centered around Arson right ?

All sorts of mayhem. I don't recall their characters limiting themselves.

And yes, amazing film.

Hell, why not. The crazy in this nation is just about right for this kind of crap.

But why "The Purge?" Why not choose "Matrix night" for instance? Reality would impose itself with less damage to the civilians.

Yikes. Do you think it's actually going to happen?

The influenced from the movie would eventually get it (through law enforcement) that life is not a movie. If it happens hopefully it does at the cost of least number of victims.

Video of Ferguson police gassing news crew and dismantling their equipment - Boing Boing

Anyone who thinks these people are being held properly accountable are not paying attention. While yes, I agree that our police need special weapons and tactics to react to certain scenarios, it has become for many police departments the standard reaction to just about anything. SWAT is being used constantly in no-knock raids, breaking doors/walls in the middle of the night to flash bang babies, shoot dogs, and drag the "perp" out into the street, when often times he wasn't the even the person growing the plant in the first place.

Over the past few decades the militaristic capabilities of police departments has grown exponentially, but accountability and responsibility has plummeted. It's a dangerous combination and I think you know that. When police are firing on citizens less discriminately and with looser ROE than soldiers in afghanistan, something is wrong.

while i'm sure that's partially true, i also took off on foot when i was there and walked by myself. ran into nothing but cool folks. there were a ton of great independent shops; kind of reminded me of my own town's downtown when i was a kid before all of the huge stores swooped in. everybody i ran into was cool as hell, which was the complete opposite of my previous visit in 2006. the difference is that this time, i was staying with someone who lives there.

Not just Louisville, baby girl. I've heard several cities are talking about this, including Detroit and Jacksonville.

In serious fashion, or just bull****? Anyway, did anything happen last night?

How many of those riots were met by a small army? Not only are the Ferguson riots highly political motivated, unlike most riots which are mindless flash mobs, but they are being met by an extreme version of what they were rioting about to begin with. Namely an out of control, unaccountable, militaristic police force.

Why do so many think these police are just doing a job, and that this is how our police need to look, and act?

Some else pointed out that this is more akin to devils night than the purge.

They are quite correct.

The purge movie was fine entertainment but not realistic for many reasons.

The premise is not the fear of what would happen on such a night but instead that many people would respond to such a lawless night with murder rape looting etc.

No doubt some would but probably not most.

Here is a much more realistic list of actions which people would take if all laws were suspended for a night.

Same with Jacksonville, Florida. Parts of Jax are unsafe. If you know where not to go you can have a good time. I was in Jacksonville a couple of months ago and had fine time. However, I know Jacksonville very well and I know where not to go.

welp, just checked google news, and it looks like it didn't happen. pretty much like every other inflammatory / scary urban legend on facebook.

here's another cool pic from Chicago, though.

yep. had such a ****ty time in 2006 that i said i wouldn't go back to Chicago. had such an awesome time in 2014 that i didn't want to leave. in fact, we stayed an extra day because everything was awesome. the vibe of the place was electric.

This has all the makings of internet hoax/urban legend. I highly doubt this will happen.
