Could a real life threat, based on the movie The Purge actually happen in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend? Residents of the mid-south city are being warned about just that being possible and authorities say they are ready. The Louisville Metro Police have stated they are taking very seriously the threats that have been made and were based on the violent movie. Many terrorizations have made the rounds on various social media outlets about what is supposedly going to happen in the city starting Friday evening. The Purge film is centered on a 12 hour period which is selected by the government where there are no laws that are enforced and any type of crime can be committed. One trend going on social media declared the so-called Louisville Purge was going to happen on Friday, Aug. 15. LMPD is reacting to the apparent threat by explaining they are watching everything extremely carefully and are taking each threat received as very serious. It was reported by one Louisville news agency that fliers and posters had been placed all over the city, and on them were announcements about a Purge crime binge that would go into effect on Friday evening starting at 8:30 p.m. and would last until Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. for all the residents of the Bluegrass state’s largest city. The LMPD sent out a police news release about all the posters and fliers attempting to assure Louisville residents that the police department would be prepared and ready if any type of mass trouble began to occur.

Could Real Life ‘Purge’ Threat Happen This Weekend?

Wow. What do you guys think?

The way things are going these days, it wouldn't surprise me at all. Unfortunately, I expect it will get much worse before it gets better.

Sad but true. :(

Hell, why not. The crazy in this nation is just about right for this kind of crap.

That's not the premise of The Purge. It's more akin to The Crow's "Devil's Night."

Not just Louisville, baby girl. I've heard several cities are talking about this, including Detroit and Jacksonville.

Yikes. Do you think it's actually going to happen?

You can't be afraid of it, hon. This kind of crap will eventually be a reality for us. You need to be ready to deal with it imo.

I think a few wayward miscreants may try something, but law enforcement has been very clear that there will be consequences and repercussions to any and all law breaking done overnight. My daughter is worried about it, too. I told her to not worry, that nothing will happen to her. But just to be on the safe side, seeing as how my little town is pretty high in crime, we'll stay in for the night.

Besides - I live just outside of Jacksonville. They don't need a Purge night to go balls out crazy in that place. It's an absolute nightmare. Crime is so, so bad there.

I thought that every Friday night was purge night in Detroit.

In all seriousness guys, you know this was just some kids that thought it be hilarious to pull some pranks right?

Well, I don't know a lot about Louisville, other than every time I've ever driven through it, I saw nothing but construction. I do know about Detroit and Jax, and I know that they are both extremely high in crime.

I would think it would behoove the police departments in both cities to have extra people on duty, just in case. In Jax, people will pistol whip you for $1.

I live way out in the middle of nowhere. Around here, you pull that **** and you get a bullet in your skull.

I'm more concerned for the people that do live in those areas. Areas that also happen to have strict gun control laws, which rules out self-defense in the event that a 'Purge' actually does happen.

To the bolded: same here. That being said, people who live in urban areas need to be aware of just how crazy things can get, and decide what they would do if the shtf. Not giving any thought to these things is just not wise. Human are the best thing we got going, and can easily be the worst, if stress levels reach a certain point. There is more than one reason I live in the country, and this is one of them.

Purge, smurge. Never happen. Who is doing the purging? Who organized it? Twelve kids sitting around smoking reefer? It won't happen in Louisville or anywhere else.

Yeah, I can see it now:

"Where are you going, Larry?"

"It's Friday night in Louisville, I'm going out to purge and sh*t."

"It's only 7.15 PM, you moron. The purge doesn't start until 8.30!"

"What can't I start my lawlessness now? I'm all dressed for it and got a few places picked out. Who says I can't go now?"

"The purge rules say lawlessness doesn't start until 8.30 and you have to be finished with your lawlessness by 6.30 tomorrow morning."

"You mean after 6.30 AM I have to be lawful?"

"Yep, those are the rules."

:lamo

I agree. If the events in Ferguson aren't showing people just how testy things are getting, there is just no hope for anybody.

You know, this isn't the first time you've had some rioting or looting...

So.... who exactly is supposed to be doing this "purging", and who do they want to purge?

You know, this isn't the first time you've had some rioting or looting...

How many of those riots were met by a small army? Not only are the Ferguson riots highly political motivated, unlike most riots which are mindless flash mobs, but they are being met by an extreme version of what they were rioting about to begin with. Namely an out of control, unaccountable, militaristic police force.

Considering that most of the really bad riots hat to be countered by calling in the NG?

People need to stop trying to turn a bunch of thugs that are rioting and looking into some sort of saints. All you are doing is ignoring the ones that aren't acting like petulant two year old.

What exactly do you have a problem with in that picture? The fact their wearing body armor? The armored truck that stores their gear? This stuff is standard issue for SWAT teams... got a problem with them?

Send lawyers, guns and money .....
