'In what appears to be the peak of arrogance (at the ignorance of the American people), Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has just announced that an additional 130 "military advisers" - mostly Marines - will be sent to Iraq to help the Kurds fight ISIS. We have two simple questions: 1) Since when did Marines become non-combat-troops? and 2) Is the President going to call all their wives and explain that their boots will not touch the ground? As gentle reminder, no less than 8 hours ago the administration was considering 75 'military advisers' and now it's nearly double that?'

And so it continues...slowly ramping up American involvement.

4,000+ U.S. deaths (most of them during GW Bush's watch) in a Middle Eastern quagmire seems to be not enough for Obama.

And would you let ISIS become so powerful they then become a threat to the U.S.?

The World needs to do something about ISIS, not just the U.S. but I would support a response to them if we had support from the world in money, equipment and troops from ALL U.N. nations.

advise my ass

Turkey, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt should be dealing with this. The US has done enough damage and proven that all we can do is fan flames and add fuel to the fire.

That's a highly naive statement.

Iran, that's funny.

Really? Just what prey tell do you think that 130 Marines are going to contribute in any significant combat role. Besides, Marines learned pretty quick how to work with these guys during the Iraq War so I wouldn't doubt them in that capability.

Exactly what do you think any of those countries can accomplish that we couldn't? Not to mention the fact that I'm pretty sure these countries have zero expertise in fighting cooperatively. Some maybe here and there but even then that's limited.

Why is that funny? Iran is a bigger ally of the Maliki government at this point than we are, and ISIS is a bigger threat to Iran at this moment than to the US.

I'd advise it to stay right where it is. OTOH, I agree that "shoot over there" likely leads to "Give me that damn thing. You aren't hitting anything." We've seen this before.

I don't think that was the point. Obama and clan have repeatably said no boots on the ground, like you can keep your Dr. BS Yet we have war planes in the air bombing and BOOTS on the ground and growing.

This is not the first 130, this is in addition to those already sent over. No boots on the ground my ass.

We've heard this from Obama and his administration before haven't we?

"If you like your doctor you can keep you doctor...."
"I will close Guantanamo. I will restore habius corpus"
"That I think is one of the most important things the next President can do is try to bring us together, and stop trying to fan the flames of division that have become so standard in our politics in Washington."
"That's why today I'm pledging that we cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office."

Now we have "No new ground troops in Iraq".

Seems I saw this movie before....

Fine then, best I can tell there are 500 in total... and now all marines by the way so we're not talking about a single operating combat unit.

So again I ask, what magical combat operations you see 500 troops involved in when there facing an army of what? 10,000?

We just have to figure out how to lure all the ISIS troops into a very narrow pass.

You know, I may not be a fan of Obama's but I'm not so mindless that I can't help but think of that scene where Leonidas is standing before the 300, and the politicians come out and he says that his 300 are just going out for a stroll, that there just his body guards...

Now I can't get the image of Obama in front of the press conference saying something like... (Skip to 1:10, it makes more sense

We've accomplished destabilising the entire region and now you want us back in to repair the destabilisation! :lamo

ISIS will not become a power. Why? Because many of the surrounding countries in that region (Syria, Iran, Jordan) have a vested interest in a Sunni uprising being quelled as quickly as possible. As soon as Iraq can get their PM issue figured out, I think you'll see things quickly simmer down. Also, as soon as we stop interfering and allow those countries I mentioned to step up, things will improve as well. We dont have to fix everything in this world , despite popular belief.

You blasphemer. Did you just compare the 10lb dumbbell curling Barack Obama to King Leonidas? Shame on you my friend.

I know! I couldn't help it though.... he sent "300 advisors".

I think the Arab Spring has done more to destabilize things than we ever did Monte. Also, I noticed that you didn't exactly disagree with my observation of the usefulness of said countries to handle their own problems...
