A writer for the international crisis group maintains!?!?! Well then, it must be true....

Also, maintaining that because politics and religion were intertwined in the past in the region, they must be in the future is clearly ridiculous. Christianity was vitally important to European politics until quite recently, but secularism has risen in its place. But even so, it still rises up from time to time to play a more significant role. Then fade away to an extent, only to become more relevant again. That happens everywhere. Why is the Middle East different?

American interests were better served by Islamist groups, who were content with obtaining conservative social reforms, than by leftist and nationalist groups who would challenge the status quo in relation to oil politics. Nationalists/leftist like Mossadeq challenged that status quo and were deposed. Others like them were repressed and imprisoned by their local dictators. Islamism was certainly organic in some ways, but in many ways it was manufactured by the political structures of the region.

You dont understand, all of these aspects of society-govt, justice, religion, etc historically HAVE BEEN INSEPARABLY CALLED ISLAM. Islamic secular (relative term) states are an invention of the last century. Even Islamic socialism is distinct, from what you call socialism because of the supremacy of the religion.

I got it the first time. So, if her head was severed while she was still alive then is it safe to assume there would have been a lot of blood on her dress?

It is different because it continues to use the old medieval approach to war as Europe used some near thousand years ago. They go with "I shall behead you in the name of God" but most likely this is pure retaliation and hatred.

    Such nonsense and hypocrisy!

No, the pics of the beheaded little girl in the party dress...there wasn't any blood on her dress. How do you know the naked woman pic was photo shopped?
