Jihad Magazine Lists US Tennis Open as Terrorist Target

Police warn that the upcoming US Open Tennis Championships to be held at Flushing Meadows in Queens, New York may be a potential terrorist target after appearing on a wish list of terror targets in the Spring 2014 edition of Inspire, an online magazine published by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

In the article, Car Bomb in America, in the most recent edition of Inspire, contains detailed instructions on how to build a car bomb and specifically advises to place the bomb at large, densely populated gatherings instead of in buildings.“This type of car bomb is used to kill individuals and not buildings. Therefore, look for a dense crowd.”

The instructions on creating a bomb in Inspire are part of what the authors of the magazine call “open source jihad,” which enables terrorists to train for jihad-related activities at home rather than having to travel abroad. According to Inspire, open source jihad provides “a resource manual for those who loathe the tyrants; includes bomb making techniques, security measures, guerilla tactics, weapons training and all other jihad related activities.”

Among the suggested targets of this particular car bomb were tennis stadiums, since “they are visited by thousands of people, and high profile people, especially the US Open.”

...

This is just one example of the true and real threat to the US.

We should stop supporting militant Islamic groups as a matter of policy in the ME, if we view them as threatening.

Of course we should. However, that will not stop them. And, ISIS and AQAP (which is where this comes from) have more than enough asset to do this and almost anything else they want without our help. What you describe will not in any way stop or reduce the threat to us or remove the mentality that we are their enemy.

I hope you realize the reason I didn't respond to you in the other thread was because your posts to me were before you got to my post in that thread that explained your other questions and comments.

Yes I did see that in the other thread. And I'm glad we agree that we should stop supporting terrorist groups, and I also agree that that alone wouldn't stop ISIS sense Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia are supporting them.

Didn't you get the Memo? Al Qaeda is decimated - Osama bin Laden is dead and GM is alive. Cmon, man, get with the program. The Smartest President Ever solved that rubix cube in, like, his first thirty days in office, or something.

Facts a rhetoric very often do not align, especially with the current Administration.

I'd take it a step further that we should stop supporting ANY group in the Middle East. That region is waaay to hot right now and I wouldn't trust ANY group there at this time.

I'm not going to be arguing with that.

The problem is that we support people who don't seem threatening at the time. People like Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. At the time, they were threatening people we don't like. So it's ok to give money and weapons to terrorists if they pinky promise to attack our enemies.

Been workin out great for the last 40 years or so!

I think that that was my point.

Well then this "Facts" guy must be a racist.

i'm more suprised by the fact that jihads have a magazine....

No dude, one thing these guys do very, very well is IO. Which, outside of a few narrow bands, we suck at.

Ive never heard of it before either but it should have some interesting articles like: How to prevent beard itch in the desert, the sexy burka gallery, shoe bomb making for beginners, etc. :2razz:

Why do I have a sense of deja vu reading this? I could swear I saw this thread somewhere else a few months ago....weird.
